Brooks Saddle - B17 Softened

Not cheap but so comfortable even from day one. Highly recommended.

I'd been looking at them (and others) for a while, as I wanted to spruce up my dated but classic road bike for a contemporary/retro overhaul and this saddle fits the bill. I'm not dissapointed in this well crafted, good looking, comfortable product... it is second to none

The saddle I received was much lighter in colour than the photos - almost a beige- white shade. It was also very porous and extremely easy to mark; even sitting on it in the garage to check I had it at the right position left a blue sheen from my old jeans I was wearing. In the end I ignored the instructions and applied a very light coat of shoe dubbin to the outside and that has given it some sealing and a more appealing colour. Comfort wise it initially seems hard but doesn't seem to create any pressure points so I wouldn't describe it as luxurious but it doesn't become uncomfortable either on a long ride which I think is what makes it good. Seems a bit expensive for what it is but I love the look and so far it seems well made. I'm a life long cyclist in my 50s and haven't used a Brooks saddle before but I have to say I can see me having more of them.

This Saddle has been on the market for 120 years because people like me keep coming back and buying it when modern saddles either feel like you are sitting on a razor blade or break after only a few hundred miles. That never happens with a B17. I have two B17 currently and both are very comfortable and I know that will last thousands of miles reliable riding with very limited maintenance needed.

Early days so I can't say too much about the comfort, but the quality of the saddle is excellent. The only problem is that the adjusting spanner was missing, so I guess I'll have to buy one in the future because a standard spanner will not fit in the tight space.

Fitted one last December. Rode a LEJOG in september. No sore bum issues at all. Unlike when i did it in 2014! Brooks saddles are brilliant for long distance rides...

Cannot buy better real top class saddle !

I have a few Brooks saddles ... I like them... I have an aged and a softened saddle ... So had confidence buying another ..Oh dear .. the variable leather thinkness, but ( I assume ) similar softening process means that not all saddles are created equally.Not a problem if you are wanting to break one in, but if you are opting for a softened, you probably want to avoid that bit.Also slight disappointing on a wider note that Brooks only offer the softened saddle in a single colour ... That isn't black....My aged saddle is much darker, but otherwise similar to the softened saddle and a much deeper richer tone, so clearly it is possible. .. heyho .. that's a personal preference.

I like the seat but have not had a chance to ride yet. Instructions say not to proofhide top side of seat but topside seems to be dry and will easily soak up whatever it comes in contact with as did the bottom when I applied proofhide to it. I have other Brooks and other leather seats but with smooth tops and have always oiled the top side somewhat. Don't know if I'll proofhide this one on top or use some other leather conditioner that I have on hand. I know that whatever I would use would definitely darken the seats leather, which wouldn't matter to me. I like the softer condition of it though compared to a standard one.

Die Einstellung ist wichtig. Dann ist der Sattel sehr bequem.

Dopo aver provato altre selle, sono approdato a quest'ultima. Per chi non conoscesse il marchio, basta googlerare per averne un idea. E' il miglio produttore di selle per bici. L'ho montata sulla mia bici Gravel per avere una seduta comoda che mi permettesse di starci su per parecchio tempo. La seduta è sostenuta ma comoda. Bisogna spettare, con l'uso, che prenda la "forma" del proprio fondoschiena ma, già dai primi chilometri non si avvertono fastidi nonostante sia nuova. Il cuoio è duro all'inizio ma, a leggere altri commenti col tempo di ammorbidisce. Come tutti gli oggetti di cuoio bisogna avere un po di cura. La confezione è perfetta e di qualità. All'interno c'è la chiave per registrare la tensione della sella ed una bustina di crema d'applicare all'interno della sella per "nutrirla". E' stato facile trovare la giusta inclinazione cos che con altre selle non è stato facile ed anche questo il motivo della scelta. Da un tocco di originalità al proprio mezzo senza esagerazione.

après avoir essayé diverses selles classiques et en gel, j'ai fini par tenter cette belle selle de cuir (modèle homme bien que je sois une femme) avec un réglage de 5% de pente vers l'avant pour éviter les douleurs.je viens de rentrer de 400km de vélo-tourisme à raison de 50km/jour entre Roscoff et Nantes et le bilan est très positif.Je précise que ne porte pas de cycliste rembourré mais un simple short de rando de montagne;Entre l'inclinaison adéquate de la selle et le cuir respirant je n'ai souffert d'absolument aucun désagrément.Reçue une semaine avant mon départ je craignais qu'elle ne soit pas assez rodée mais tout s'est parfaitement passé.Je suis tellement satisfaite que je songe à équiper mon vélo de ville avec un modèle B17S pré-rodé également malgré son prix ... il faut juste trouver le modèle femme !

Nachdem mir der ursprünglich auf meinem Fahrrad montierte Sattel nach etwa 10.000 km zunehmend Schwierigkeiten im Dammbereich bereitete, war klar, dass er ersetzt werden muss. Auf Empfehlung habe ich mich für den Brooks B17 Standard Aged entschieden. Ein wunderschöner Sattel, der zunächst noch einige Tage im Wohnzimmer zum Bewundern ausgestellt wurde und einige Foto-Sessions über sich ergehen lassen musste, bevor ich ihn endlich aufs Rad montierte. Aus Bekanntenkreisen war ich informiert, dass ein Brooks-Sattel eine "Einreit-Phase" hat, und das hat auch mein Hintern ordentlich zu spüren bekommen. 1,5 Jahre und gute 4.000 km später möchte ich diesen Sattel nicht mehr missen! Ich kann nach wie vor nicht behaupten, dass ich bei 1 - 2 Stunden sportlichem Fahren meinen Hintern nicht spüren würde, aber nachhaltige Probleme oder Druckstellen, die mir früher tagelang noch zu schaffen machten, gibt es definitiv nicht mehr. Zur Pflege: ich fette den Sattel insgesamt recht sparsam ein, achte aber auch penibel darauf, dass er nicht nass wird. Für mich hat es sich bewährt, den Sattel nicht zu fest zu schnüren. Die Längsspannung mit dem Schraubmechanismus musste ich bisher noch nicht aktivieren. Auf meinem Indoor-Cycle habe ich übrigens den "Brooks Flyer Aged" montiert, wobei ich persönlich im direkten Vergleich aber dem "B17 Standard" den Vorzug geben würde. Allerdings habe ich mit dem "Flyer" erst ca. eine Leistung, die etwa 1.000 km entspricht, zurückgelegt. Ich habe daher berechtigte Hoffnung, dass auch hier das Leder noch geschmeidiger wird und mein Hintern und der "Flyer" noch gute Freunde werden.
