Abu แธคamid al-Ghazali, in his Book of Counsels, compiles powerful spiritual lessons and reminders, weaving hadith into direct speech and presenting it to the reader. This is a book that is intended to stir the heart to submission and mindfulness of Allah. This translation has sought to retain the literary aspects of this collection while also applying an attentive engagement with the hadith employed within. Review: Read it over and over! - What an inspiring books full of wisdoms and exhortations from Hadith Qudsi - sayings where Allah is addressing people. This book should be read over and over to inculcate the greatness of Allah. Review: Solemn reminder - Idries Shah mentions in 'The Sufis' that 'Ghazali was appointed a professor at the famous Nizamiyya Academy at Baghdad at the age of thirty-three. His intellect was of such an order as to be unsurpassed in Islam. For him, the real object of education was not merely to provide information, but the stimulation of an inner consciousness โ a concept too revolutionary for the scholastics of the time. He propounded this theory in his Ihya-el-ulum (Revival of the Religious Sciences). As in the case of Rumi (who spoke of the limitations of poetry only when he had become a great poet) Ghazali could afford to show up scholasticism by the time he had no fewer than three hundred thousand traditions of the Prophet by heart, and was the Authority of Islam.' The Book of Counsels, consists of a number of these traditions. The kindle book is well laid out and well worth reading.
