Eastenders meets Narcos
As bad as EastEnders, but not as good as Narcos. The first series is good, the second is just ok. The 3rd and the 4th are dull and repetitive. Gang A kills members of gang B, gang B kills members of gang A and so it goes on, introduce gang C etc. etc.Murders galore and all of this without the police paying any attention or showing interest in the goings on. Nothing more than a gangland soap opera, with endless "infill" shots of scooter riding and the main characters being deep in thought.Bought this having enjoyed Narcos, but deeply disappointed. If you have not seen Narcos yet, get that instead.

One of the greatest crime sagas in modern television & film
One of the greatest crime sagas in modern television & film. On par with The Wire, The Sopranos, & Boardwalk Empire. An excellent visual novel with Shakespearean like plot lines. Each episode is multilayered with a story told thru stunning visuals & great dialogue. Because it's a PAL DVD, I actually ended up purchasing a brand new Sony Television & region free blue ray player. Screening the entire series again 3rd time in a row. Amazing series.

Fantastic!
Gritty, gripping, true to life, not for the faint hearted. Don't be put off by the subtitles. Bought the DVD box set of season 1 & 2 after discovering that despite subscribing to Amazon Prime you have to pay extra to stream season 2 - it was as cheap to buy the box set of season 1 & 2 as it was to stream season 2!

Subtitles useless
Sadly, I can't really comment on the drama. I am struggling to follow the plot because the poor subtitles make the drama unwatchable.I really shouldn't have a problem with subtitles. I have a degree in English literature and 10 years experience as a senior English teacher! The issue is that there's been no attempt made to edit the translation. Every utterance is translated whether or not is important. So in the first episode, I missed the characters' dialogue because song lyrics from the background music were translated word for word. There are lots of examples like that which make for difficult viewing.Because they are attempting to translate everything, nothing stays on screen for very long. Subtitles flash up on screen for a nano second before more text appears. I get halfway through reading and the text changes.I wanted to get my teacher's red pen out and edit it all down for them. Less would have been so much more for those of us who do not speak Italian

Scugnizzo Napolitano!
My Neapolitan dialect has literally come on in leaps and bounds since watching this television adaptation of Roberto Savianos concept. Gritty drama, compulsive viewing with a plethora of twists and turns. The viewer is left with a feeling of despair for this troubled community and places their trust in no one!
