10 Days To Great Self Esteem

Excellent if you buy the print edition - Kindle version needs work!
Great book with some useful tools - BUT the Kindle edition lacks page numbers and keeps telling you to reference different pages that you then can’t find, so would recommend the print edition if you want to be able to follow it all! Highly useful when you do.

Helpful
Great book although perhaps a little long winded. The interactive part is not for everyone although the repetitiveness of the ideas is an important factor in pushing the message home. For me personally it opened my eyes and brain to aspects of my condition that I had never thought of before. Another book in my arsenal of 'self helps' as I continue my battle with anxiety and lack of confidence.

Misguided
I must confess I was suckered in a bit by the sensationalist title, thinking that this would be an intensive program aimed at targeting the facets of self-esteem more than a marketing strategy. The author has some incredibly misguided ideas and views upon the nature of self-esteem. At no point does he offer a definition on what he actually refers to and reading through, it quickly becomes apparent that he has no understanding of what true self-esteem is. Includes the misconception that arrogance is “too much self-esteem” rather than a symptom of a self-esteem deficiency. Later passages present references to religious texts, which has no real place in this field. One astonishingly oversimplified idea that I found alarming was when the author states there is no such thing as self-esteem and that, instead of obsessing over our worth, we should be focused on being more productive. The tone of the book on the whole is rather condescending and insulting to read as an adult: ‘Did you do the exercises? No, I didn’t think you would. Pick up a pencil and do them now,’ etc.I offer a second star as some of the exercises do make positive use of cognitive behaviour therapy techniques and the book cannot therefore be deemed worthless.Save your money and time. Instead of buying this, I would recommend The Six Pillars of Self-esteem by Nathaniel Branden for a thorough understanding of what self-esteem is.For a better treatment of CBT themes, Overcoming Low Self-Esteem by Melanie Fennell is recommended. The development of self-esteem is a lifelong process of learning and discovery. To facilitate your achievement of it, it is vital to take on board accurate information and instruction rather than quick-fix solutions. I wish you the best of luck in your journey but implore you not to start here.

This is a great workbook if you are feeling low and even on the brink of depression. Don't be misled by the title as whilst it does cover self esteem, it covers an awful lot more as well. It really does work.

Very good
If you work at it...it works! have read other self help by David Burns and his common sense approach works well and is easy and practical to apply to everyday situations...but it's not an easy ride and you have to work at it!
