Atomized iron is very susceptible to rusting if exposed to moisture, care should be taken to keep it dry. It should be noted that it does not keep well in compositions containing oxidizers. When this came through my door in a little jiffy bag, I used very a strong magnet to confirm it was what I'd hoped, and it did so with an almost comic surety. The fine powder is contained in a clear resealable plastic bag, that permits a nice neat pouring without any cloud of dust, which I'd feared. Btw, I find this "atomized" iron a lot cleaner to use than flaked aluminium. So far I've primarily experimented by mixing the powder with: "clear" silicone caulk, resulting in the temporarily formation of a grey putty, then a few hours later a permanent mid-grey rubber; and a very fluidic, clear, two-part epoxy resin, which ultimately produced a tough DARK grey plastic, with some physical flexibility. Both materials became highly magnetic and pigmented. So, I'm now delighted by having the means to create custom forms at home, that can both attract and be attracted to, a powerful neodymium magnet, almost as if they were cast from molten steel. Could this be used to make magnetic paint?** A: Well i guess you would have to magnetise it first. Then make sure there was enough in the paint and is evenly spread. Might be a bit grainy.
