En Vivo! [Blu-ray] [2012] [Region Free]

It's fair to say that we've had quite a few live videos from metal's finest over the years, from 85's classic Live After Death to 09's excellent live/ documentary film Flight 666, but I have to say that En Vivo! is a cut above. To put it briefly, this is a tremendous performance in a massive venue before a fanatical audience, coupled with spot-on editing and production to make a truly tremendous package.The concert opens with a heart pounding build up through the first half of Satellite 15... The Final Frontier, showing the band and crew prepare for the show while ecstatic fans fill Santiago's Estadio Nacional, before Maiden take to the stage and launch into "The Final Frontier". As the excitement continues through "El Dorado" and "2 Minutes to Midnight", it's made perfectly clear that this is a band on fire- an immense performance which puts groups half their age to shame. Each member is on top form, with Dickinson in particular giving an overwhelming show, turning challenging numbers such as "The Talisman" into astonishing spectacles.The setlist itself is a masterpiece of ebb and flow, with the smooth intros of "Dance of Death" and "When the Wild Wind Blows" erupting through to high paced numbers like "The Trooper" and "The Evil That Men Do". Being The Final Frontier World Tour, there is a large amount of newer material here, but that is absolutely no excuse for complaint- recent tracks fit comfortably between old favourites remarkably well, a true testimony to the band's consistent song writing prowess. In any case, if you really can't give the new stuff the chance you know it deserves, then you really should have bought Flight 666 instead.The editing present is wonderful. In the past, Maiden videos were subject to almost dizzying cuts by Steve Harris, but those days are long gone. Andy Matthews, who also cues the video screens in all the band's live shows, adds a fresh perspective to the live footage, showcasing the concert with split screens which, while not being at all intrusive as first feared, gives the viewer all the action without cutting every millisecond to another shot. On top of this, the soundtrack is possibly Kevin Shirley's best live mix to date.As usual with Maiden videos, it is accompanied by a massive supply of extras, the highlight of which is the "Behind the Beast" documentary. For years I've been praying for a proper behind the scenes doc, showing just how each concert is really put together, from post-production to every show night, and am happy to say that this hour and a half long film goes beyond my expectations. Where Flight 666 spent all of its time on the band and their fans, this film instead shows the crew in action, a massively important part of the tour completely overlooked in the past. Another first for a Maiden doc is footage of the band in rehearsals and the stage set being built from concept to production rehearsals. If this isn't enough, there's another fascinating documentary going behind "The Final Frontier" promo video.To sum up, this is probably the best concert video I have ever purchased. Each minute is thrilling and is the closest to actually being at the concert as it is possible for a film to be (and I should know having seen the band live dozens of times).

I must admit that as a life long Maiden fan I was unaware of this DVD's existence until I purchased Maiden England. I always knew the South American fans are amongst the most passionate of all Maiden's following and that they rarely get the chance to see their idols in the flesh and so when the Iron's billed a show everyone knew it was going to be huge!The concert itself is based on the hugely successful fifteenth studio, "The Final Frontier" and many of the key tracks are performed live together with an exciting romp through the back catalogue including the forgotten gem " Running Free". The band are on the top of their form and you can almost see the energy being fed back and forth with the crowd. The sound quality is excellent and each note played is crystal clear. The picture quality is sharp and crisp with the rich colours from the set and lighting coming through perfectly. The edits are frenetic and fast-paced consonant with the energy of the band, but are too distracting from the overall visual experience.The extras are entertaining too especially about the newly reconfigured Ed Force One that has re-defined global concert touring. It was moving when the band arrived in Japan at the time of the tsunami. Unfortunately, the fury of nature robbed the Japanese fans of an awesome concert but the band promised to make it up to them. My gripe with the documentary was that is was a little too similar to 1999's "Flight 666" but spending anytime with the Iron's is a privilege and a pleasure!En Vivo! Is a powerhouse of a concert and highlights the band on at their best and by the end of the gig, the crowd were exhausted but extremely satisfied. What a spectacle it must have been!!

It's hard to find any new superlatives for this band! This is quite simply a stunning show with power,energy and excitement,all filmed in front of a fanatical and brilliant Chilean crowd.A brilliantly put together set list which is performed to perfection.An absolute delight to hear "The Evil That Men Do" and "Running Free" performed again in among all the older stuff that you'd expect to hear at any Maiden show.The latter of those two provides an absolutely stunning finale to the show!!The fact that these guys absolutely love what they do and enjoy each other's presence on stage is as evident here as it always is.I love all the little smiles,laughs and interactions that go on all the time.I love the split screen editing which,to me at least,seemed to give a greater overall feel of the stage,noticeably sometimes giving you two different camera angles of the same shot.Very cleverly done,I thought.As far as "Behind The Beast" goes,well I'd have bought the DVD were it just for that alone! The behind the scenes documentary on "Death On The Road" was brilliant but this eclipses it by miles! And in between the two we have the treasure of "Flight 666".This is a band that do exactly what it says on the tin,so speak,just as they always have.As real,honest,down to earth and in touch with their fans as they've always been.They just seem to get better and better and they never fail to deliver.The greatest that there's ever been in my humble submission.This is another fantastic recorded document of another moment in their time and with another brilliant album now in the can and another world tour to come next year there's plenty more to look forward to! Long may they continue!

Die englische Heavy-Metal-Band „Iron Maiden“ wurde 1975 durch Bassist Steve Harris, der ihr Band-Leader wurde, gegründet. Nachdem die Band in den 80er-Jahren den Durchbruch schaffte, machten sie viele Tourneen, so auch 2010 / 2011 die „The Final Frontier Tour“. Am 10. April 2011 fand das auf der Blu-ray-Disc (BD) enthaltene Konzert im Estadio Nacional in Santiago in Chile vor 50.000 Fans statt. Das zugehörige Studioalbum von 2010 heißt ebenfalls „The Final Frontier“. Außerdem gibt es auf dieser Einzel-BD noch eine umfangreiche Banddokumentation mit Titel „Behind the Beast“ sowie Promo-Videos. Die BD gibt es auch als 3D-Version, ich habe aber die BD in 2D gewählt.In der Anfangsära der Band gab es etliche Umbesetzungen (Details kann man in meiner Rezension zu der Doppel-DVD „The History of Iron Maiden – Part 1 – The Early Days“ nachlesen) und ab 1982 stabilisierte sich die Besetzung. Die Band-Konstellation ist von 1982 bis 1989 und wieder seit ca. 1999 folgende, auch auf der besagten Tournee: Bruce Dickinson (Gesang), Dave Murray (E-Gitarre), Adrian Smith (E-Gitarre), Steve Harris (E-Bass) und Nicko McBrain (Schlagzeug). Außerdem ist als Band-Mitglied neu seit 1990 Janick Gers (E-Gitarre) dazugekommen. Zusätzlich bekommen die Briten Unterstützung bei der Tournee durch Bass-Techniker Michael Kenney (Keyboards), der aber anscheinend nicht als Band-Mitglied mitgezählt wurde. Von 1993 bis 1999 war leider der sehr talentierte Dickinson nicht mehr dabei; an seine Stelle trat 1994 als Sänger Blaze Bayley, der sich aber nicht allzu lange halten konnte. 1999 sind Bruce Dickinson und Adrian Smith wieder zur Band gestoßen. Blaze wurde durch Dickinson ersetzt, die Band spielte ab dann mit drei E-Gitarristen.Inhalt:„En Vivo!“ (110 min)Natürlich spielen die Briten in diesem Konzertfilm unter den präsentierten 17 Songs ihre Klassiker wie „2 Minutes to Midnight“, „The Trooper“, „Fear of the Dark“, „The Number of the Beast“ und „Hallowed Be Thy Name“ Das ältere „Running Free“ ist auch dabei. Es werden politische Begebenheiten wie das Wettrüsten zwischen den USA und der UdSSR während des Kalten Kriegs in „2 Minutes to Midnight“ angesprochen, aber auch große Missstände wie der Völkermord an den Indianern in Nordamerika in dem auf anderen Tourneen gespielten Song „Run to the Hills“. Neben den unter „Inhalt“ genannten Klassikern, die mir alle gefallen haben, ist noch die sehr gute Heavy-Metal-Hymne „Iron Maiden“ als Lied praktisch der ersten Stunde zu nennen. „Running Free“ ist vielleicht als schwächstes Stück des Konzerts einzustufen, aber immer noch Mittelmaß. Warum es oft als letztes oder vorletztes Lied gegen Schluss gespielt wird, ist mir nicht ganz klar. Für mich ist es kein krönender Abschluss des Konzert! Alle Lieder sind aber gut heavy und handwerklich solide gespielt!In der Tourneedokumentation „Behind the Beast“ wird praktisch ausschließlich auf die damals aktuelle Tournee eingegangen. Das ist etwas schade, gibt es doch mehr zu berichten, bspw. über die Entstehung von Alben und über andere Konzerte in einem weiter gefassten Zeitraum. Na ja, andererseits ist es schon interessant, wie die Planung und Durchführung der Tour vonstatten geht. Das Dickinson die „Ed Force One“ selbst fliegt, ist ein cooler Knaller! Die als Bonus enthalten vier Videos nimmt man als Dreingabe hin, sind aber nicht wirklich überwältigend. Am besten gefallen hat mir noch der Musikclip.Bild und Ton sind einer BD angemessen, also meist sehr gut, bei manchem Bildmaterial in der Dokumentation „nur“ gut. Das Dickinson als Sänger wieder dabei ist, ist spitze. Er ist einfach der bessere Gesangskünstler gegenüber dem Ersatzsänger Bayley für die Art von Heavy-Metal, den die Band macht. Dickinsons erreicht mit seiner Stimme auch höhere Tonlagen, er hat eine sog. Kopfstimme, die auch als „Luftschutzsirene“ (Wikipedia) bezeichnet wird. :-)Noch ein Wort zu Okkultismus und Provokation: In den 80er-Jahren sagten der Band Anhänger religiöser Gemeinschaften nach, Satansanbeter zu sein! Es gab sogar Plattenverbrennungen und Verbotsforderungen deshalb! Alben- und Liedtitel wie „The Number of the Beast“ können schon provokativ sein, jedoch benutzt die Musikgruppe okkulte Themen nur spielerisch. „Iron Maiden“ ist nicht wirklich okkult! Heute mag man darüber schmunzeln, damals haben sich die Gemüter teilweise aufgeheizt. Nicht zuletzt durch Provokationen durch ihre Musik wurden sie bekannt, was dem Fan natürlich willkommen sein durfte.Anmerkungen:Der erste Teil einer umfassenden Banddokumentation ist auf der Doppel-DVD „The History of Iron Maiden – Part 1 – The Early Days“ von 2004 enthalten, beinhaltet rund fünf Stunden (!) Filmmaterial und behandelt die Jahre 1975 bis 1983. Es sind u. a. auch vier großzügig Konzertausschnitte aus der Frühzeit mit dabei. Hier kann man mitverfolgen, wie die spätere Erfolgsband ihren Weg zur Legende antrat.Derzeit (Mai 2024) ist die interessante Banddokumentation „Iron Maiden – Flight 666“ in der Online-Mediathek des TV-Senders „Arte“ kostenlos abrufbar. Sie bietet einen Einblick in die Tournee „Somewhere Back in Time“ und die Bandchemie. Wer mehr über die Band erfahren will, ist mit der Doku gut bedient. Ebenfalls empfehlenswert ist das gleichnamige „Flight 666 – The Concert“, das Lieder der „Somewhere Back in Time“-Tour von vier Kontinenten bietet. Wer die Musik der Band noch nicht so gut kennt, ist hier mit dem Online-Video gut beraten. Allerdings scheint der Konzertfilm mit einer Laufzeit von rund 58 Minuten gekürzt zu sein.Fazit:Der Musik von „Iron Maiden“ gehört zum Besten, was Heavy-Metal zu bieten hat. Die Band ist einfach phantastisch gut und ihre Konzerte sind live, aber auch auf DVD oder BD, immer wieder ein großes Erlebnis. Im Dezember 2025 feiert „Iron Maiden“ 50 Jahre Bandjubiläum. Hut ab! Die Konzert-BD „En Vivo!“ verdient die volle Wertung von fünf von fünf Sternen! Punkt!

Producto sobresaliente tanto en imagen como sonido.Iron Maiden es una de esas bandas que suele ser criticada y calificada de usurera por sacar discos en vivo y recopilaciones como churros. Pero como siempre digo: a nadie le ponen una escopeta en el pecho para comprar discos, así pues, por mí encantado. Llevo comprando sus álbumes desde que les descubrí allá por el 82 u 83, entre vinilos, VHS, cassettes, CDs... debo de tener alrededor de 100 discos suyos (seguramente más) en todos los formatos posibles, incluso aquel experimento en sonido 5.1 que hicieron con el Dance Of Death. Y aun así me sigo comprando sus discos y sigo disfrutando con ellos. Y éste no es ninguna excepción.Como decía al principio, el BD es sobresaliente en todos los niveles, de audio, de vídeo y tanto la banda como el público están totalmente a la altura. La imagen es muy buena, tiene un tratamiento bastante dinámico, casi de vídeo-clip. Es difícil encontrar un minuto seguido en el que simplemente se muestre una toma, la mayoría del tiempo se muestran múltiples imágenes, de varios integrantes de la banda o simplemente enfocando al mismo músico pero desde ángulos distintos. En la sinopsis del BD pone que se han usado hasta 22 cámaras y a fe que las han amortizado en la producción del vídeo.Si la imagen es buena, el sonido no le va a la zaga. Se dispone de tres bandas de audio, un DTS envolvente y un estéreo en alta definición, sin pérdidas, y un Dolby 5.1 pero con pérdidas. Todos a 48 kHz. La disposición es bastante frontal, los canales traseros se dedican única y exclusivamente al público, con cierta reverberación de los instrumentos para dar sensación de amplitud, pero nada de canales dedicados a la música más que en los frontales. Todos los instrumentos suenan con gran claridad y me gusta especialmente la disposición de las guitarras. Mientras que Dave Murray tiene prácticamente en exclusiva el canal izquierdo para él, Gers suele sonar en el derecho y Adrian Smith suele estar en el canal central, aunque a veces se reparten el canal derecho en función de quién haga el solo. Aunque a priori esto podría ser un handicap a la hora de distinguir a Adrian, debido a que el canal central suele estar sobrecargado (voz, bajo, batería...), en la práctica no es así ya que Dickinson a veces suena en ambos frontales, consiguiendo que suene centrado dentro de la sala y dejando el altavoz central del 5.1 para otros miembros de la banda.El concierto fue grabado durante la gira de The Final Frontier, de ahí que abunden temas de dicho disco de estudio, a pesar de no ser ni mucho menos el mejor de su carrera. Sin embargo los temas escogidos a mí me gustan bastante y, después de oír directo tras directo de los Maiden, agradezco la inclusión de temas nuevos. Aun así, por supuesto que hay temas clásicos, de ésos de toda la vida que incluso tu abuela reconocería si se lo tararearas. Yo he contado unos cinco temas de TFF, por lo que quedarían 12 cortes para repartirse entre el resto del álbumes, de los cuales hay ocho de la primera época hasta de Fear Of The Dark, para mí punto de inflexión en la carrera de la banda, antes de la partida de Dickinson: The Trooper, 2 Minutes 2 Midnight, The Number Of The Beast, Running Free, Iron Maiden... a mí me ha gustado especialmente la inclusión de Hallowed Be Thy Name aunque supongo que cada uno tendrá su favorita.Sobre el escenario, los trucos de siempre. Maiden prácticamente no ha variado su escenografía desde los tiempos del Live After Death. Por supuesto hay efectos y decorados relacionados con su último disco. Por supuesto sale un monstruíto a incordiar a los miembros de la banda (si en el LAD era un Eddie momia en Powerslave, aquí es su versión extraterrestre de la portada del Frontier). Por supuesto hay un monstruo gigante que aparece tras la banda cuando tocan Iron Maiden (de nuevo el Eddie momia es sustituído por su versión extraterrestre). Por supuesto hay un "Scream For Me...". Por supuesto hay una parrafada de Dickinson, la explicación de un tema o algún chascarrillo. Y lejos de aburrir, uno reconoce que hasta las echaría de menos si no las viera o escuchara en un directo de los Maiden.La banda sigue en forma, todos, incluso mejoran con los años. Hasta Murray, que habitualmente era un sosaina, está mucho más activo, más espontáneo, ha mejorado en los fraseos y sus riffs suenan ahora más heavys. Dickinson como siempre recorriendo kilómetros, entrenándose para los 100 metros, salto de altura y longitud mientras canta. Harris ametralleando al público con el bajo. Janick Gers moviéndose de esa forma tan descordinada que a mí particularmente me pone nervioso y que a veces parece que ni siquiera está tocando... Lo único que tengo que criticar, aparte de la sobredosis de cafés de Gers es el hecho de que a Nico no le enfoquen tanto como a mí me gustaría. Es una pena que con esa cantidad de cámaras no se centren más en él cuando toca. Una pena porque es una delicia ver como maneja el pié del bombo, tocando con un solo pié descalzo a ritmo de doble pedal. Y todo eso con un público super entregando, con unas tomas cenitales bastante chulas cuando todo el estadio se pone a saltar a la vez y la gente forma literalmente un mar de cabezas.La edición se presenta en el típico amaray azul para Blurays, con un sólo disco y en el que al menos se ha incluído un libreto con fotos e información, aunque no demasiado extenso. Pero a estas alturas ya suena raro que haya libreto y que sea algo más que una octavilla con la portada. El menú es interactivo, aparece sobreimpreso en pantalla y se puede acceder a todas las funciones sin necesidad de dejar de ver el concierto: pistas de audio, temas, extras... Como extra se ha incluído un documental sobre el montaje de la gira, el vídeo de Satellite 15/The Final Frontier, un "así se hizo" del mismo y alguna cosilla más (pinchando en la foto de Amazon se ve la trasera con la info de los extras).En definitiva, un disco del que espero disfrutar muchas veces y altamente recomendable si se encuentra en una de esas épocas de rebajas de Amazon, en las que vende los discos a precio de EEUU.
