Defender Door Chain for PVCu Doors - Police Approved

There have been many times I forget to unhook the chain and find myself opening the door on my face, as it wouldn’t open at all. It does a great job as extra security on your PVc door. I have recommended it to my brother and a few family friends and they have all bought one each for their homes. Overall very good value for money, very sturdy and easy to install. Easy instructions to read.

Great product, really easy to fit. Fitted it to my mother in laws front door, she uses it all the time and it has made her feel more secure when answering her door. It only allows the door to open a fraction, enough for someone to pass an id badge through. The fitting instructions suggest swapping the bottom screw for the door handle on your upvc door for one of the screws supplied, I did this but it needed cutting down, which I didn't do. I just used the nut for hanging the chain on the wall when not in use, as a spacer on the screw. It fitted perfectly and hasn't compromised the strength of the product. It's a bit of a hack but works perfectly.

Very sturdy and easy to fit. Appreciated the good instructions provided and all of the extra fittings provided to overcome any problems. My only criticism being that the chain could be made a little longer as it does not really allow you to open the door far enough to see clearly. Overall though good value for money . If you need to cut one of the extra fittings provided for the door fixing, I would strongly advise you to check the measurement before using the guidance provided.

Ok, this is a very strong product well made and comes with all the different types of fixings you would generally need. The replacement screw that goes through the door handle you may need to cut it to length so you will need a hacksaw, I did think the chain it’s self could have been one or two links longer just to give a better range for fixing the wall plate. If you are fixing the wall plate to your plastic door frame as there is generally a metal frame inside the frames you will need a cordless drill driver to fix the self drilling screws. The large plate that secures the door I found very good for people that have difficulty in holding small objects making it easier to put in place ( I fitted this for my elderly parents that have these issues and they do use it and find it easy to use)

Good product, easy to follow instructions and easy to fit. Like most reviewers I feel that two more links in the chain would be good as I can just open the door and peak out, most doors have a recess and it’s awkward to see round. It is very study and strong and adds security to your home at a reasonable price.

This door chain is a very clever design for uPVC doors. Its construction is very substantial and its weight and material thickness supports this. There are several different fixing options available. The box contains all the neccessary hardware for either of the 2 ways to fix the chain bracket and the plate hanger to the door frame. The very cleaver design makes use of the "inside" lower screw of the uPVC door handle so that no extra drilling\screwing on the door is required. The fixing options in the box provides 2 very longe screws for fixing the other plate hanger to the lower screw of the door's inside handle mounting plate. Look carefully and it can be seen that these 2 londer screws provided are of slightly different thickness\thread so that, hopefully, you withh be able to select the correct one for your uPVC door handle assembly. These screws are made longer than the one currently in the door so that they are long enough for a variety of uPVC doors to hold the plate hanger tightly in place. We had to cut off about a ¼", (no problem at all), so that the door handle is held securely front and back\top and bittom. Very pleased - a very clever and neat solution\product that provides significant piece of mind. PS:- for us the length of chain was just right. Any longer and the door would open too far. With the current chain, there is just enough room to see & speak through, but is small enough that nothing substancial can be forced through.

Bought to fit to a Upvc composite door, the ability to fit it to the lock plate meant that I didn't have to drill the door and adversely affect the warranty of the door. The screws for the wall plate were a good length as was the wall plugs they supplied. I'd use an 8mm drill bit rather than the recommended 9mm bit to get a tighter fitting in the wall. Other reviewers said the chain was too short, I disagree, if it were longer then it would be possible to unhook thye chain from outside.

On the whole this is a good,robust product.Not hard to fit at all.BUT,be careful when screwing the plate to a wall/door frame as 2 of the screws snapped off at the head,leaving me with protruding screws & the only solution was to cut them flush with the plate leaving only 2 (more than enough) to hold it in place.
