Becoming Alpha (Alpha Girl Book 1)

Annoying lead characters
I really did try and like the heroine Tessa she for me came across as too snippy and argumentative and even a little bit arrogant I just couldn’t warm to her. Why do authors do that it makes me angry because the story was very good it moved along nicely. The romance for me was very lame and definitely not believable I didn’t feel any connection between them maybe that’s because the girl was so annoying she actually hated being told to do things and yet was very bossy to others herself.I also would prefer if authors would write from both POV we got no intel from Dastein so it felt very one sided I would have loved to have got into his head to hear his thoughts but that might not be everyone’s view just mine many authors do this now and I have gotten to like this.Sadly I won’t be purchasing book 2

Actually an enjoyable read! Not too heavy and a solid read :)
This was so easy to pick and read. I devoured it pretty quick and actually enjoyed it!Yes, a lot of it could be said as the usual - girl with a quirk and an outsider meets other boy blah, blah....but in honesty; Ms Erin doesn't make it feel like that. So! Tessa is our "heroine" for the series. A girl with the gift of "sight", so powerful she has to wear gloves and be careful of what and who she touches.Moving to a new area, she hesitantly goes to a party with some of the guys and gals from her new school. She feels like she finally fits in...! Taking a breather, and going out for air...changes everything.Drawn to a guy that she had somehow seen in a vision, a quick make out and a nibble session ends with her being quickly dropped from the kids from school, a night in A&E where the staff are petrified of her, and where her senses suddenly seem...overwhelming. She has NO clue what is going on.Turns out the guy she made out with...Dastien, is a werewolf. The town she moved to is almost a mecca for supernaturals as well as humans but they keep a good distance from each other. Now she was one of them.....The main storyline of this book is to introduce us to Tessa, to show us her new life just as she enters it, and to her new way of living. Dastien, it turns out is her Soul Mate. Tessa doesn't adjust to being a werewolf well - not one bit. She fights it the entire time. And still...she finds it hard to fit in. She was bitten. Everyone else was a born were, so once again, shes the odd one.A great start to the series, and an interesting take on weres. It makes a refreshing change to have a paranormal romance, where its not too heavy, its not all about big sex scenes and the story still carries through. On to the next.....!!!

Sweet YA PNR
3.5 starsAlpha Girl is quite a typical YA PNR werewolves/witches/vampires book - think the sort of thing that got huge after Twilight. It follows Tessa, a teenager girl with telepathic abilities who finds herself turned into a werewolf after moving in an attempt to start a new life. There are elements of insta-love (though magically explained and so bearable for me) and Tessa is your average "outsider who has never found somewhere that she fit in but suddenly does once she becomes a part of the magical world" main character. However despite the many cliché's of the book it is rather enjoyable and I think that is because Tessa and Dastien are very well written lead characters who have a strong connection that leaps of the page.Other than that I can't really define WHY I like this book as it does have quite a few little issues and didn't fulfil the potential of what it could have been. Becoming Alpha is just one of those books that has that magic something special that made me love it despite the issues and clichéd characters and storyline.Once the action properly kicks in the book gets a lot more powerful and the characters got a lot stronger. I would have liked for the action to start earlier as the story was starting to drag but it really was worth the wait. This isn't a particularly unique read but it is quite sweet and is a nice little YA PNR that you will probably enjoy if you are after that sort of a read.

A very good start of a series - and worth reading.
Becoming Alpha has something of the vampire academy series as well as normal world young adult series. It has a heroine who is a teenager without being portrayed as a complete idiot by the author, has a strong male character who does not need to show his strength to the expense of the female. I liked that bit very much. I love the word being created, the potential of the intricacy and political interactions. However, there are still issues that let down the series. The beginning is rough and needs to be endured to get to the real, and very gripping story. The characters lack depth in places - especially in regards to a more three dimensional portrayal of physical sensations such as touch, sound and scent. The book lives from the developing relationship between the two main characters, it is their interaction which gives it the emotional draw. The external conflict is in places very predictable and even common place - and therefore almost steals precious word space from the relationship, limiting the portrayal of its development. Nevertheless a very credible, and good, young adult book with huge potential of development.

Has potential
I downloaded this book back in 2014 and I've no idea why it's taken me so long to actually get round to reading it, it happens sometimes. There's already so many reviews so I'll skip my usual summary and get straight to my opinion. There's a lot about this book to both like and dislike, hence the 3 stars, it was a good idea and had potential and I enjoyed a lot of it but I found it overlong at times and a bit slow and plodding in places. Tessa was annoying, incredibly so and it had a bit of a soap opera feel to it, some reviews have mentioned the 'insta love' now normally I'm not a fan of this but when it comes to shifters I love it, I like the idea of fated mates and the instant recognition of their other half.Despite the above I feel this series has potential and I think I might continue on which is unusual for me with a 3 star read,
