Sea Kayak Navigation: A Practical Manual, Essential Knowledge for Finding Your Way at Sea

A very good guide from the bottom up. Providing a concise review of the important concerns.
I liked the format, quality of pictures and the exercises provided that made me think of the issues I should address before setting off on my paddle adventures. For the more experienced it is a good synopsis of what should be considered for the less experienced it outlines all the things that need to be addressed.

Highly recommended for anyone new to nautical navigation
I'm working my way through the exercises and learning so much. I have a hill walking and river kayaking background and there is still much for me to learn from this book. Each chapter has questions or exercises designed to reinforce your learning and it all works very well. Not too long winded and easy type to read.

Some confusion over the last pages.
An interesting and informative book until the trip planner at the end.A little more breakdown and expanded step by step detail at how things were arrived at would be useful.Perhaps further examples would be of benefit.

Expected more, basic stuff but good if you’re new to navigating.
If you’re an outdoors type, done a reasonable amount of hill walking, can read a map, take a bearing, find your position off two bearings, know the basics of how tides work etc etc then a good chunk of this book will be pretty useless. If you don’t know any of that then this will be a good introduction. It is a beautifully presented book but will take you less than 2 hours to finish it. It’s pretty cheap so not a big outlay but having gone through it probably won’t get opened again.Regarding content, if you’ve got Gordon Browns book, most of this (and a lot more) is in there so you can probably save your pennies!

Very good instructional book.
The go-to book with all the kayaking folk I speak to and probably rightly so. Great layout and pace of learning.

As it says on the tin
I bought the wrong book, not the authors fault

Practical aid to Coastal Navigation
I recently did a British Canoe Union (BCU) Coastal Navigation Course I wish I had, had this book pre the course as the course content mirrored the book. I'd recommend the book as an 'aid' either to use before or after the course. Must admit though if you are into sailing or boating or done a RYA navigation courses you probably wouldn't need this book.
