This frequently happens, when the car runs over something that is high and scratches, scrapes the protector and its anchor plugs. Once the head comes off, the protector can be left on the road or dragging under the car. These plugs, of multiple sizes, fits oil protectors, side panel wheel protectors (protecting the engine from road splash from wheel), inside door panels, etc. The kit is great to have around, when you need them. The kit has the removal tool (for the old damaged fastener) and is very handy. If you don’t have them, you could use a screw or a bolt, or anything else that holds the parts in place. But you don’t want to do that, right? This kit is your answer. I just gave one to the friend whose car I was lent.
