We have persistent robins relentlessly making nests on our deck roof ledges. I feed the birds in my yard. I love birds. But, the location the robins are attempting to nest in is dangerous. My dog is a beagle mix and VERY much a hunter. There would not be a good outcome if a nest of baby robins was above "his" yard. We fenced in a section of our yard for the dog. I know that baby birds spend a few days on the ground learning to fly. Also these nests are directly above our BBQ grill and table and chairs. The mess they are making building nests is pretty gross actually. Anyway, we installed these across the entire length of the roof ledges. What we've learned is, they are actually assisting the robins in building the nests because the brush and grass and nest material they are finding is sticking to the sharp points and helping it stay on the ledges better. So, this idea totally backfired for us. Instead of deterring the birds, it is more inviting as it is assisting with the nests not blowing off of the ledges.
