Best filter and easy fitting.
After using non original filters for the past 2 years, we have now gone back to this LG cartridge, so easy to fit and didnt have to flush much water through to clear the charcoal, taste great straight away unlike other cartridges. Only issue was that there is no water flow indicator on this cartridge but compared with cartridge already in place and was quite clear which direction to fit the new one.

Water tastes great from the fridge with the genuine LG filter
Firstly I know that there are compatible filters that are much cheaper but I have bought some in the past and had them literally explode under pressure after a couple of months (admittedly our water pressure is high) I prefer the genuine LG filter. Water tastes great from the fridge. It removes all that horrible chlorine taste. Many people have said that when they fit the filter they get some cloudy water initially. I have noticed this cloudy water every time I install a new filter. I understand from a kitchen fitter friend that it is just charcoal dust from the filter. I found that if you connect the input pipe first and then turn the water back on while putting the output end of the filter into a bucket then after a few seconds the water will run clear. Now turn the water off and connect the pipe to the fridge.

Water tastes ok after black and cloudy disappeared
I replaced this with my old filter which had been in a long time. When i used it alot of black water came out then it was cloudy for a while . I tried to contact sender but cannot find how to get in touch with them. Im drinking the water and hope its ok. It tastes fine and not cloudy now.but not sure why this happened.

Does the job...
Easy to connect, once the instructions are read properly. They used to need to be flushed through to get the dirty charcoal out but the last two did not require it. (I flush them anyway just to be sure!).

OK, but not what I hoped for.
I'm not convinced that this is a "genuine LG part" as described. The filter cartridge says it is manufactured by MCM Ltd and has no mention of LG, and there is no mention of LG in the leaflet, either. It appears to be a generic, external water filter being sold to fit any fridge/freezer that has an external water feed. That said, it appears to be very difficult to buy genuine LG parts from anywhere. The instruction leaflet was poor. It was a single sheet, more than half of which describes plumbing in the fridge in the first place. The small section which actually describes fitting the filter confuses things by describing two types of filter fitting, without saying which applies to this filter. The text is very simple and does not warn you to ensure that the pipe is pushed in as hard as you possibly can (it's a tight fit) until it clicks into place. This is much further than you expect. Until you do that, it leaks very badly, even if you fit the clip properly.Once I had it working and flushed through it was fine, and greatly improved the taste of the water and ice, but paying this much for a generic filter with poor instructions and no support felt wrong: if I want cheap, I'll buy cheap in future. The answer above about flow (it does go from the tap to the fridge, obviously) says it all.
