Girls' Last Tour, Vol. 1 (Volume 1)

At first I thought the story was cool but kindaaaaa bland but still cool. I bought half of the series and was kinda nervous I wasn’t gonna like it BUT NO- this is by far one of my favorites and I didn’t even realize it until I caught myself thinking about it ALL THE TIME and how inserted I was about reading the next one when it shipped, so so SO happy and just bought the last two missing so I will soon have them all!!!! So good love the characters and I was mostly interested in the past and what the heck is happening in this dystopian city where everyone’s gone!!! LOVE IT HOLY BUY IT ITS SOOOO WORHT ITTTT

I have... complicated feelings about tkmiz, but it can't go understated how excellent this manga is. Very bleak, thought-provoking, and fun. The intricate city infrastructure is so damn cool looking and artistically impressive. Highly recommend finishing this series if you have the means to, it's left a big impact on everyone who's read it, myself included. There's definitely a reason why tkmiz has such a cult following online, his work is very introspective and entertaining to read.

Girl’s Last Tour was recommended to me by Amazon’s algorithms and while it did hit my taste this time, usually it seems to just randomly pick things by the same authors or stuff other members also bought. Honestly I’m not sure Amazon is that good at suggesting stuff, except for this time. The one sixty page read is a very fast one, especially since it is a comic, but I still enjoyed it. So, thanks Amazon I guess. From the cover art you aren’t given a lot of information about Girl’s Last Tour, but the world looks trashed and the girls look young. There is a lot of mysteries in just the art, but not a lot of answers. This isn’t really a plot driven story, instead the art and the interactions gives you an internal narrative about the sort of depressed world these girls inhabit. Is it our future, or a commentary on our today? The obvious hint that fixating on war will ruin us is clear enough, but there is more to it than even that. With the abundance of weapons, or stuff that really doesn’t matter taking priority over food, nature or life itself almost suggests it is about our reliance on distractions and fun technology. Could you replace the guns in the story with iphones? Maybe. There aren’t going to be a lot of characters, but they’re all going to in some weird way take a simple view on life, the lessons aren’t necessarily deep or hard to spot in this story. What keeps you reading is a little bit of what will happen to them, but more just to experience a little time with the girls and their journey with seemingly no purpose. Another analogy of life, but purpose does eventually become the theme to the story, at least in book one. I’d love to write a longer review, but there isn’t a lot here to write about. You could analyze the story more, but not without spoiling it and the plot is so thin already that I’ve maybe already said more than I should. The pages in this book will last no time at all and while the art is interesting, it carries the same despondent hopelessness the world does. There isn’t really much to dig out of it that I could see and while beautiful in some ways, for the most part it all just did its job. A fun manga, but perhaps a bit shallow.

This series is like getting punched in the stomach by Ivan Drago... repeatedly... at random intervals... no warning whatsoever. This is not your average 'cute army girls' slice of life. The journey is dark and serious, and the scenery is a look into the human soul. This is a story about trying to keep a full belly, about trying to find a warm place to sleep, about simply finding some sense of safety for tomorrow... and maybe the day after. If you've ever seen a time where you didn't know where your next meal was coming from, if you didn't have a comfortable place to sleep, if you didn't know if you would open your eyes when you closed them... well, Chito and Yuuri will feel as familiar to you as a broken-in pair of boots, a good field jacket, or that reassuring weight you carried on your shoulder or in your hands. It's not going to be a long journey, you get hints of that from the very start. It's going to be mostly a sad journey, with a little happiness snatched from a world without much left to give... and which parts with it reluctantly. It's going to be a story of simple joys and things that we take for granted in our comfortable existence will become luxury beyond imagination. So join Chi and Yuu for their tour. It is an emotional ride through your own soul as much as their world. Will you find joy along with them, or only dispair at a world fallen from dizzying heights? Just remember, this is a last tour. There is nothing waiting when it's over. There is only what they will find along the way... and the question of how long they can keep it going.

I got into the book from the anime, and its basically just the anime ( I know the book came first). But that said I really love the book and especially the last 2 manga issues that the anime didn't cover. Came to the series for something cute to watch/read. Instead I got way more in terms of tough questions, the point of living, philosophy, and questions about life. I really love the book series and loved the anime, I really recommend this book and the books that follow.

A post-apocalyptic slice of life that will bring both smiles and maybe tears to your face while reading it. It has such a unique atmosphere and the characters are so well-rounded in so few words that it takes you by surprise. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to read something both light and meaningful, hopeful and melancholic. About the order itself, mine was apparently lost and didn't seem to arrive, but communication with the seller was optimal and in few days I had it sent again with no trouble. Will definitely keep ordering from them, as I have had no such problems in the past and their response to this particular incident was timely and dilligent.

Le dessin est assez particulier, j'avoue, il faut adhérer. Mais pour le reste, l'ambiance apocalyptique et la vie au quotidien des deux femmes sont saisissants. Vivement la lecture du tome 2.

Girl's Last Tour is a true definition of a "Hidden Gem". One of the most refreshing takes on the post-apocalyptic genre, the story revolves around the misadventures and everyday life of, apparently, the two last surviving humans on earth. our protagonists Chito & Yuuri travel the ruins of a civilization long gone, searching for fuel and food, and exploring desolate landscapes. During their journey, they get to discuss various topics, from simple things like cooking and music to deeper subjects like the meaning of life! The art style can be deceiving, with its blobby moe style making you think that it's going to be just a silly comedic adventure, but there is a more sinister side behind it. It's not particularly dark or violent (there is no violence at all), you won't find any high-octane action taking place, or fights against some unspeakable evil force. The chemistry is between the interactions between the two girls and their opposite characters (Chito the brains, Yuuri the brawn). It is a perfect blend of humor, slice of life and melancholy, posing some interesting philosophical questions (in a simple manner) without giving definitive answers but leaving the reader to think about it. The backgrounds contrast with the blob style, with an abandoned industrial mega-city that feel eerie in its emptiness and oppressive but wonderful to look at tanks to Tsukumizu's amazing sense of scale and architecture while keeping things simple at the same time. The sketchy lines give a more relaxed vibe and the sense of the whole adventure being one big melancholic dream. Girl's Last Tour Vol.1 does a wonderful job at its specific genre and it's a great set up for the later volumes who only improve as you continue reading!
