Battery great. Can it be charged without being attached to the drill?

Yes it is charged through the battery charger that comes with the drill. In my case it can not be charged whilst still attached to the drill.

Yes I bought it as a direct replacement for the battery provided by Black & Decker. I've since bought another Tokuy battery so I always have one fully charged.

The battery was returned as didn’t work ! and refunded. Not much faith in battery tools . You may have more luck though .

As these batteries age at some point they cause the chargers to overheat. - or do current production batteries now have a protection system. I am using B&D charger 5102767-48 and a CD12C Type 2 drill to connect. Is this TOKUYI a suitable replacement battery, or will it blow my new charger?
