Update - almost useless
Update :Having used this for a while, I cannot recommend it. When working, it's fine, but it will regularly drop connection - and here is the important part- it won't tell you, and will keep a still image on your phone screen from when it was last working.Ie : if it drops when your baby is asleep, it will keep showing you a sleeping baby, no matter what she is doing. This makes it impossible to rely on, and fairly uselessOriginal review below:First version to arrive appeared to be already opened, and did not work ( despite lots of effort) , so I returned.Second version to arrive appeared to be new ( which was nice), and as per usual with excellent amazon returns, arrived super quickly.#2 was relatively straightforward to set up, camera has a nice wide viewing angle and really does work well in the dark ( even pitch black) .You won't be keeping any of the photos you have the option to take, but even in a pitch black room you can see well enough to see if the baby has her eyes open, and the slight rise and fall of her breathing. Microphone works ok. Again don't expect to use it to record anything you want to keep, but you can hear when the baby makes her usual strange breathing noises ( as well as a fair amount of background noise), so it does its job fine.A little red light comes on when the camera is in use, which I suppose offers some reassurance that you aren't being spied on, but I still keep ours switched off when we aren't using it.The camera can't seem to keep a consistent connection to the network, and will regularly drop and reconnect ( which can take some time). The phone will continue showing a still image for a while when connection is lost, so not the most reassuring. It does its job well enough, and I don't regret buying it, but I wouldn't be rushing around recommending it either.

This product has the worst wifi reception of any device I have ever encountered
This product has the worst wifi reception of any device I have ever encountered. I have a reasonably capable wifi setup with pair of Ubiquiti UniFi APs on separate channels, in a fairly quiet RF environment, overall giving good coverage throughout the house. This needs the strongest possible wifi signal, the minimum for video appears to be around -60 dBm, and even then is sensitive with frequent signal drop-outs.The video quality is very low, being a heavily compressed stream with low frame-rate and high latency. The Android app is annoying, in that only one device at a time seems able to connect. If a device is connected then the next one will just repeatedly be thrown back to the login screen with no information about what's going wrong. That makes it awkward to switch between phone & tablet for example. It could be improved by offering some open standards, such as an RTSP video stream, to interoperate with 3rd party clients.Contrary to other reviewers, I had no problems doing the initial setup of the device. Alerts seem work OK while network connectivity is good, but that's not sufficiently reliable to function as a baby monitor.Overall, this product is not fit for purpose as a baby monitor. Two stars rather than one because it does basically do what it says, just not well enough to be useable.

Great video quality but just didn't work reliably enough for us
I really liked the features of SCD860 baby monitor but it just struggled to work reliably despite the great video quality.I was attracted by the SCD860 after our BT 7500 stopped working, the 720p HD video quality was in a different league to the BT unit. I was also attracted by the ability to see baby when I was at work. We did miss the zoom and tilt / pan feature on the BT unit too as well as the lightshow. We have a BT Home Hub 5 and we had constant issues with the video disappearing and the screen going into audio only mode. What was odd was you could have two tablets next to each other one showing clear video and the other saying it can't find the baby monitor. We also lost connection during the night and the app beeped waking us up. On one occassion the picture had frozen showing baby asleep when baby was actually up for a few hours. The connection issues might have been due to our router but I also tried the SCD860 in a different house with a different router and internet provider. The app hasn't got a great rating on the Google Play store and it needs a lot of work, I experienced frequent crashes. When I tried to stream over 4G he app got stuck in a loop and I got errors stating it could not contact the server.I did get a replacement from Amazon but still experienced the same issues :(I contacted Philips support and they were not great. I asked for technical support and the adviser said I needed to reply to some questions which I would receive by email. They would then respond to me in 1-2 days! I did get these questions the next day with a raft of technical information. In the end I returned the SCD860 and ordered the Philips SCD620/05 which is basic and arrived today.

Great about 95% of the time - but getting better
It's a bit fiddly and can be temperamental but the quality of pictures and audio are better than anything else I've seen. The app can be a bit buggy but recent updates have really improved things. The big selling point for us was the enhanced picture quality - you can see everything really clearly even in night mode - and ability for both of us to check up on her separately. Not sure if I'd pay full price but with discount coupon it's well worth it.
