Each hex on the board can be used by one player to place one of various resource/money producing pieces from their personal player boards.)Route/Network Building (Okay, this is actually a mechanism unlike ^. You can only place new pieces from your board next to—or reachable by your shipping strength—existing pieces of your own. This is fun and challenging and requires some thoughtful placement of starting two pieces. I’ve only played solo and two-player games so far, but I’ve found the placement of pieces on the board to be tight and surprisingly cutthroat. End game scoring will benefit players who build a network, then strategically dismantle/separate that network on the modular board.)Variable Player Powers (At the beginning of the game each player will get a Scottish Clan and unique starting resources. This approximates a mini-version of the effect of minor improvements and occupations in Agricola. Worker placement, area control, indirect player interaction, lots of options. You have to balance money, production, filling contracts, building buildings, and making settlements.Cons: missing 2 pieces. Setup can be a little tedious with 140+ pieces. Some down time if you pass as others can keep going with turn. AP is about 2/5.Pros: karma was kind enough to send replacements free but 1 month later. Replayability is high given the randomness of boards, clans' powers, contracts, and player decisions. Ease of learning is 1 game (self taught wasn't too bad).If you like worker placement, area control, production/money balance then you'll like this game. Fulfilling contracts is a must as the winner is usually the top person/s. Ready to play again. I love the variability between all of the different setup elements like the Clans, scoring methods, and ports! You get to make a ton of decisions during the game, which is very important to me in a euro. They're also all meaningful. You can't win or lose on your first decision, but if you make more than one or two over the course of the game, it can be hard to bounce back. This can be a good or bad thing, depending on the type of game that you like.I highly recommend this game.
