Neoclassical Speed Strategies for Guitar (Learn Rock Guitar Technique)

Great book, exactly what I was looking for.
What I loved about this book is that it combines an excellent detailed lesson on picking mechanics with examples of Yngwie’s playing that I could actually play at my own speed as a first step. For anyone who wants to play like Yngwie and don’t know where to start, this is the book to get.

Fantastic book
Awesome book! Just what I was looking for to increase my speed. I've already noticed great improvement in just a few weeks. I love the detailed and descriptive approach that Chris uses. The diagrams are super helpful and the audio files are an added bonus. Definitely going to get more of Chris's books!

Fun, effective drills for unleashing the fury
I originally purchased Chris' video package The Yng-Way and considered this book to just be a printed version of the video package. However, I really feel like this book goes above and beyond the original video package (and they work great together as a set). If you've been struggling to understand how various guitarists (especially one particular Swedish gentleman) are able to accomplish the insane alternate picking bursts common in Neoclassical shred: look no further.Chris has done an amazing amount of analysis on the physiological aspect of picking and explains the various options available to you. While the focus of the book is on one particular technique, Chris is quick to point out that this is A way, not THE way. The focus isn't on dogma, it's on results. The drills and sequences included aren't just effective, they're fun! I can't decide if they're fun because they're effective or if they're effective because they're fun, but either way: they get results! This is likely the best book available on improving alternate picking speed especially in a Neoclassical context.

Improvise Like Yngwie
Thank you Chris Brooks. Ever heard someone say Yngwie only plays one scale? Well this is it! If you want to go Yngwie you need to go the Yng Way. This is not on YouTube and there’s a reason artist charge money for things. I bought the paperback and it came with the audio downloads which are helpful and neat however, you don’t need them. Everything you need to learn to attack Yngwie’s style and improvisation is right here. Remember that old saying “Practice makes perfect”? Not True! What is true is that “Perfect practice makes perfect”. Before you hit the wood shred let this book be your tool for your own RISING FORCE.

Excellent book. Poor shipping package.
The book has lots of detailed information, and some excellent exercises.I had to give it only 4 stars because of the very poor packaging. The cover had been harmed a little, but it could have been allot worse...

Detail breakdown of picking mechanics
This is a wonderfully detailed book on the picking mechanics used for neoclassical “speed guitar”. What I didn’t realize is that it’s really specifically focused on the picking technique of Yngwie Malmsteen. Now, I’m honestly not the biggest Yngwie fan in the world, but that doesn’t really matter. The picking approach outlined is applicable to many styles of guitar. In addition, this serves as a book form of the breakdown on the downward picking slant style described in Troy Grady’s amazing Cracking the Code video series and website. In fact, the author, Chris Brooks, credits Troy Grady’s work in the intro, and uses many of the same terms for consistency. I’m only part way through the book so far, but this will be one I work with for some time. It’s a great value, highly recommended.

This book has taught me so much!
Having recently started to play guitar again after a 27 year break I came across this book by a fellow Sydney sider, Chris Brooks. I have known of Chris for a number of years as a player and but did not know he had written any instructional books.Speed and accuracy were the two things that I could never master all those years ago. So when I saw this book I knew I had to get it. Chris's explanation about pick orientation, wrist and forearm movement and placement opened my eyes to things that were never on the radar for when as a kid learning to play. The exercises and diagrams have allowed me to get a better understanding of how to improve my speed and accuracy. I have finished the book and have started to really come along with my technique (thank goodness!). Like Chris says to, I keep it handy as a go to reference guide for fine tuning my technique all the time.Get the book, well worth a read.

Neoclassical Speed Strategies
Vale a pena.

Great for learning neoclassical shred!
As a long time yngwie fan I always wanted to play his stuff but I was never really good enough for his lightning fast picking. This book helped improve my picking to get it faster and cleaner. It shows in great detail how you should hold your pick, which is especially good for beginners. It also gives you helpful tips on how to practice. I can only recommed it.
