Q: Has anyone tried using it on a seat airplane to hold your iPad on the seat in front of you?

I do this every plane ride. sticks to the leatherish material of the head rest of the seat in front of you well. How well it sticks to your phone may differ depending on what your phone case is made of. I remove my silicone case (as it will only stick for +/- 30 min) and stick the fixate directly to my phone and then the seat ... I have had this stick for 5 hours with no issues ... and I have had to slowly remove as it is still very sticky after this time ... sometimes if I go t fast it pops the back cover off my Galaxy-S5. I always get questions and impressed looks from people near me on the plane. I have considered trying to sell these on the plane for $10 ea ... Pretty sure I could sell several every flight.

Q: Wonder who has used this on painted walls? After reading review of ripping off paint, nervous although I tried it once with no problem.

I have had some paint come off on some surfaces as well ... if the paint is loose, also depends on how quickly you try to remove ... slower puts less force on the paint ... I have had some surfaces where it takes me more than 10 seconds to carefully remove.

Q: Will these damage the leather dashboard in my car?

No, I have them on my dashboard and when I remove mine there isn’t a residue on the surface. I’ve had them in place all summer and they remove easily.
