The 44 mm steel case with a transparent sapphire-glass back adds a premium feel, and the scratch-resistant materials ensure it remains pristine even after rough use. The unidirectional bezel with engraved numerals is both functional and visually appealing. The watch is waterproof up to 300 meters, making it perfect for diving and water sports. I appreciated the highly legible display with luminescent material, which made it easy to read in low-light underwater conditions. The automatic self-winding movement is reliable and gives the watch a sophisticated mechanical charm. Additionally, its precision (-2/+2 seconds per day) is commendable for an automatic watch. While the watch looks great, the 44 mm diameter feels bulky, especially for those with smaller wrists. It’s not the most comfortable option for everyday wear. The screw-down crown at the 16 o’clock position, although unique, takes time to get used to and might not appeal to everyone. The price point is quite high compared to other watches in the same category, especially when considering that it doesn’t include advanced diving features like depth measurement or dive logs. Lastly, while the sapphire crystal is durable, fingerprints and smudges are more noticeable, requiring frequent cleaning to maintain its polished appearance. My Final Thoughts, The Cressi Sea Lion Watch is a fantastic choice for diving enthusiasts who value durability, style, and precision. However, its bulky design and limited functionality outside of diving might not make it the best all-around watch. If you’re looking for a rugged, reliable dive companion, this one checks many boxes, but know its limitations. Review: Beautiful and functional diver's watch suitable for everyday use, too - This is a beautiful diver's watch that is also a lovely traditional-style watch. It weighs a substantial 132g as supplied with the stylish and practical rubber strap. End-to-end, the strap, tip-to-buckle, measures approx 10¼ inches (258mm), and I estimate that the holes will allow it to fit wrists ranging from about 5½ - 7¾ inches (my wrist is 6¼ inches and the third of the 8 holes in the strap was a tight fit) It is easy to wind and to set the date and time, but once wound up, it becomes self-winding from wearing it. The face is an attractive green colour and is easy to read by virtue of having nice wide hands and clear dots or dashes where numbers are traditionally sited. It has a standard-sized second hand, so no risk of accidentally confusing it with the minute hand during a quick glance, and there are fairly inconspicuous little "tick marks" to mark the individual minute/second positions. The minute/hour hands and dots/dashes on the watch face are luminous, so shining a bright light on them for a short time means they can easily be seen in the dark for several minutes afterwards. The bevel turns one way only, and clicks neatly 120 times during each rotation, so is perfect for timing dives etc with an accuracy of half a minute. When not needing this function, setting it to the default position means you have numbers marking every 10 minutes around the traditional watch face with easier-to-see marks inbetween (see photos). During the first day of wearing, I think it kept time to an accuracy of about 10 seconds, but the listing says it should be +/- 2 seconds per day, so I think this was probably me being out rather than the watch. I didn't wear it for a couple of days and the watch stopped and needed re-winding manually and the time re-setting, but this is consistant with the instruction book that says a full winding will keep it going for about 40 hours. The watch exterior is very smooth and the lugs are rounded with an angled profile ensuring that no matter how big or small the wrist is, the strap connects beautifully with the wrist and there is nothing that can catch or snag clothes or wetsuits. I haven't been diving since receiving the watch, so can't comment on how it performs at depth, but on the surface, it makes a stylish and functional everyday watch, albeit perhaps better suited for a man, or lady with a larger wrist due to its size and weight.

a tricky crown , reasonable quality
it seems like a reasonable buy. no info as to what swiss manufacturer make this movement.. there's no lume pip on the second hand which is odd for a divers watch. the lume on the numerals is average. biggest let down is the fiddly crown.. hard to catch the thread to screw down into position.. this would cause wear issues over time - it's not bad quality.. it's ok for the £295 price tag... still, I sent it back anyway

A high end look and feel for a mid price watch
I have several high end watches from brands such as Omega and Rado and this Cressi will fit right in beside them, I also have some lower priced and lower end watches and the difference in quality between them and the Cressi is very evident. Though Cressi is not a watchmaking brand, for a very well regarded diving goods manufacturer to be willing to put its name to a diving watch gives some reassurance as to its performance. The package arrives with the watch box inside a Cressi zip-loc bag. The box is nice enough but not on a par with the much more expensive brands but I am fine with this as i would prefer my money to go on the watch and not the packaging. Inside the box are the watch on its own cushion, warranty cards and the instruction book in several languages. According to the manufacturer the watch is made of a combination of aluminium and steel. The result is a very nice mixture of brushed and polished metal, a green face with a matching bezel. The strap is made of a black rubber with a very secure buckle. I am entirely convinced that the only way this will come off a wrist is if the wearer wants it to come off. The weight of it gives some confidence that this is made to do a job and will do it well. the movement is the Swiss made ETA number 2824-2 which is regarded of something of a workhorse amongst watch enthusiasts. The look and feel of the watch is very much reminiscent of a high end brand. The sweep of the second hand and the positive click of the date are very satisfying. Unscrewing the crown to either wind (for first use) and adjust the time is easy enough. One click out adjusts the date and the second and final click is for the time - this also stops the second hand in order to give an exact time at setting, but this may be a little moot, I will explain more later. Pushing in and then rescrewing the crown to what feels like its final stop is easy enough and in my testing this has been waterproof at surface pressure. So, initial summary is that this is a very nice watch that certainly looks like it wouldn't be out of place in an exclusive members only club or on a night out. Of course it also looks like it would look great on a day out diving. Now - are there any drawbacks or things I am not entirely happy with? Sadly yes, though they won't stop me enjoying the watch. First my only niggles are the little attentions to detail that can really set a watch apart from others. In this case the watch face is slightly off centre when compared to the bezel meaning that at least 3 of the number marks are slightly off against the watch face. In the same category it would appear that the bezel isn't 100% matched to the lugs when at the 12 O clock position. Next is the crown, which when screwed in does not show the Cressi logo in the correct orientation to the watch. Next is the watch back, which also does not line up the Cressi logo with the watch orientation. A possible error is that this watch comes with indication that it is one of 400 made on the back of the instruction book - however this may just be a universal instruction booklet as the Paraggi edition does not state that it is limited anywhere in the advertising. The final problem is that my watch is not anywhere near as accurate as is stated. On testing (setting at exactly 1100 hours I gained 18 seconds in a day and since then on various tests while in my watch winder case the gain has always been a minimum of 10 seconds to a max of 21. Though this is still acceptable it is not the +/-2 seconds promised. So with that many niggles why have I rated 5 stars? Because for £699 you are still getting an awesome watch. All of the discrepancies I have noted are niggles and niggles only. The face and bezel alignment is probably fractions of a mm off. Cressi have rated this as Gold label and backs is a suitable to dive with, furthermore they have back it to 300m which far exceeds the depth any sane diver would need to go. The timekeeping accuracy is still perfectly acceptable as automatics go and in my case, as a a time gain - I literally just have to pull the crown out for a few seconds. The price jump between cheap, semi cheap, medium, good and excellent quality watches can be huge sometimes and though i don't have an AP (or AP money) I still know a good thing when i see it. This watch is priced under what I would have guessed it would be - without looking too closely at it I would have guessed at at least double the price. The few niggles I have - especially the aesthetic ones would have lowered my price a little but I still think this represents a good value for money - especially for those who are slightly harder core divers than I will ever be. I am very happy to add this watch to my collection and look forward to wearing it both for it's designed purpose and socially many times in the future.
