I ordered this pepper grinder as a replacement to the OXO Good Grips Accent one I got quite some time ago. Even though the Oxo one never really gave me a consistently fine grind, it at least lasted a while.What finally pushed the Oxo over the edge was when I loaded it with a peppercorn mix that included slightly larger-than-average peppercorns. The Oxo became useless at that point. Nothing would come out, and my efforts at turning the grinder met with no resistance. (I think the peppercorns basically got stuck in the gears, leaving them to spin freely.) Yes, sometimes if I banged it against the counter or shook the Oxo really hard, I could get the gears to "catch" a few peppercorns, and I'd be able to produce some ground pepper, but those windows of productivity were very brief.FINE GRIND: So rather than buy a different peppercorn blend, I used this as an excuse to get a new grinder. Right away, the Fsdifly handled the slightly-larger-than-normal peppercorns with ease. Not only that, but the grind I've been getting with the Fsdifly has been more uniform and finer than anything produced by the Oxo, even when the Oxo was brand new.CLEANING: What I also like about the Fsdifly over the Oxo is that the Fsdifly looks like it'll be much easier to clean. The Oxo was basically all one piece that could never come apart. Yes, you could unscrew a cap at the bottom to load the peppercorns in, but for the most part, it was all enclosed. Even the main chamber that held the peppercorns in the Oxo had a long gear shaft extending the length of it.The Fsdifly, on the other hand, has an entirely separate glass chamber for the peppercorns, easily washed by hand or in the dishwasher. The grinder mechanism is just contained in the "top," and the instructions say it can be wiped with a damp cloth. (Maybe not as thorough a cleaning as it would get in the dishwasher. On the other hand, better to be able to wipe down the gear mechanism than to not be able to clean ANY part of the grinder in any way, which was the case with the Oxo.)I only rated the "durability" of the Fsdifly grinder as 4 stars, because I've only just gotten it. If it holds up over time (or fails quickly), I'll update my rating. Fingers crossed that it's built to last. But at least for right now, I couldn't be more pleased.

When I first received this pepper mill, I was unable to adjust the grind size (only fine would come out). I tightened the adjustment but would not move. When I loosened the adjustment, it didn't work either (just didn't feel right). I then relooked at the product pictures and the spring inside pushes against the adjustment so there should be back pressure on the adjustment. I had none so I took it apart and realized the problem. The grinder was bound in and had to be removed and the spring stretched to give more tension. Reassembled and it worked perfect! This pepper grinder is the cleanest since it caps the grinder portion when not in use and practical since it holds so much and gives a view of what's remaining. I just hope it lasts.

We had a beautiful, expensive wooden pepper mill. So many times, right in the middle of cooking, we'd be grinding away and no pepper!! This mill holds about four times the amount of whole peppercorns, is very modern and attractive in appearance, works beautifully (several settings, easily accomplished) and you can SEE how much pepper remains in the mill. It's only been a couple of weeks, but I am extremely happy and would recommend it to anyone. At this price point, it's an excellent value. I would not hesitate to buy it if you are in the market for a pepper mill. Shipped quickly, arrived in perfect condition.

Actually rcvd in 2 days.Came pkg'd with another non-related item, so believe from Amazon distribution rather than orig. mfr.Website shows item as 5 in. tall; is actually 7 in.Would have preferred shorter, but not a deal breaker.Capacity of 7 in. high more than adequate/necessary.Item described as having ceramic cutters, tho they appear to be polymer/molded, tho may be a composite of ceramic powder in polymer. Do NOT appear to be "fired" ceramic, which would be preferred/harder.Would prefer more accurate description.Have only used once; will give it a chance to prove itself; thus only 4*s at this point.Was impressed that the plastic "nut"/thumbscrew for adjusting grind coarseness had a metal (brass?) insert for longevity. Have had issues with plastic threads eventually wearing/strippingTop, incl'd'g grinder, screws off easily & provides wide opening for filling.Cover to top has a good fit.Hope it lives up to my expectations.

A++++++ I bought 3 - one for the table, one for the kitchen, and one for the lady-partner's house. I hurt my hand 8 months ago and could not twist a pepper grinder. This one is just tip and grind. Plus - there is a light that let's me see how much is coming out at a candlelit table. My hand is better, but I'm never going back.8 months use - original batteries still going.

I've always used whatever grinder came with the peppercorns. You know, the plastic one that's already filled and cracks when you drop it. I'm a grown up. It was time for a big girl pepper grinder. So I got this one and I love love love it! It's adjustable so I can have finely ground pepper or coarse pepper or whatever size grind in between that my heart desires. I can fill it with whatever peppercorns I want (the colorful ones are so pretty). I can set it on the table without being embarrassed. It's lovely and I finally feel like a grownup...at least a grown up in the part of my life that involves pepper.
