So basic
This book is so basic and doesn't explain the fundamentals of music composition

This is not the book by Arnold Schoënberg
Serves me right for going for a cheaper option, then not checking if it’s actually the same thing. Honestly though, not the greatest book. It gives a few okay tips but the examples given are unreadable as the size of the staves, clefs, bar lines and notes don’t match up. Also most of the book is about music theory. Im thinking most people who buy a book about composing already have at least a bit of a background in music theory, and if they don’t, perhaps just give a few suggestions on music theory books to work through before starting this one. Don’t give your book the tittle “fundamentals of musical composition” and then spend most of it teaching theory. Also its not the best book to be learning theory from anyway.

Faint text and poor graphics
Text is faint and therefore difficult to read. Graphics are worse: no figure has an identity label (fig.1, fig.2, etc), all texts in graphics are so small they almost cannot be seen, and the piano keyboard on p.15 is nothing like a piano keyboard, even the key names are wrong! A great disappointment.

Needs an editor
The overall material is OK for an introductory book for young musicians, but the book is riddled with spelling errors, run-on sentences, and punctuation errors. In some places the text refers to color in figures, which are all BW or grayscale.

Just what I needed to get me started back playing music. Everyone needs to know how to read music.
Another part of music theory very easy to read and follow.
