Perfect!
I take long, very hot showers and baths due to joint pain, and I listen to podcasts while I'm in there (I've dropped a book in the bath once and I'd as soon not do it again). I needed a small speaker that I'd be able to hear over the running water, without the tinny sound of my phone speaker. This is perfect. The small size means it fits anywhere in the bathroom, the USB-C charging means I can charge it infrequently and use the same charger as my phone, and the sound is just fine for the podcasts I listen to, definitely audible over a running shower. It's not something you'd want to use for a neighborhood cookout, the power just isn't there, but I do carry the speaker around the house sometimes when doing laundry or dishes during the day, while my phone is safely on the charger, and the Bluetooth connection is solid all over my 1500sqft house, even several rooms away from the phone.

Quirky setup.
Charged overnight with a USB- C cable (not the little 3" toy cable included, that didn't work) then had to hit the power button about 12 or 15 times to enter pairing mode. After that things preceded as expected. Only at that point did the little blue light that is shown in the product images appear

Good sound, long battery life, and easy to use in a tiny package.
The PHILIPS Mini Bluetooth Speaker is designed to provide good sound in a small package and is ultra-portable. A speaker this small usually suggests a tradeoff between quality of sound in exchange for lightness and portability. I don’t believe that to be the case with the Philips. The details: The PHILIPS Mini Bluetooth Speaker is remarkable in its simplicity to operate, its sound quality, and its weight/size. It is just 3” H X 2.5” W X 2.5” L and weighs a mere 4.95 ounces. In terms of simplicity, the only operating mechanism on the speaker is its on/off switch. In addition to the switch, it has a single light serving the dual purpose indicating on/off status or when it is charging. There is no way of determining the state of charge other than to fully charge it (the light goes out when fully charged) or let it fully discharge (in which case it shuts off)…nothing in between. It recharges via a USB type C connection port in about two hours. How it worked: It connected to my Bluetooth enabled phone with ease. I turned the speaker on, found it on the BT list on my phone, and connected it. I then pulled up a playlist on the phone and started playing….It took about 60 seconds.….easy peasy!! After fully charging, I let it play on high volume and found it lasted for seven hour and 55 minutes before the battery was depleted. Given its tiny size, that was longer than I expected. All the controls are through the BT connection from the phone to the speaker. For example, to change the volume or the current song you use controls in the music app on your phone. Likewise, you can play any audio on your phone on this speaker (for example a phone call). I didn’t find the volume to be overly loud, even at its highest setting, but it is loud enough for most purposes. Keeping in mind that sound quality can be subjective, the quality of sound to me is quite reasonable and acceptable for this speaker. It has reasonable base and treble with little or no distortion at both high and low volumes. Compared to the speaker in my iPhone, it is a substantial step up. But, of course, the Philips Mini is no match for my home cinematic amplifier/speaker system. On the other hand, the price tag for my home system is no match for the Philips. Summary: I already own two portable BT speakers, but I’m always looking for something that might be easier to carry on backpacking or car camping trips during the warmer months. I don’t need something loud…..just something with which I can listen to music while I’m fixing a meal or reading a book. The Philips fills that niche handily. I hardly ever take my other BT speakers when backpacking because I can’t justify the weight or space in my pack. This speaker changes that. It has decent sound and volume, weighs about the same as a pair of thick hiking socks and takes up less room. On top of all that, it has superb battery life and is very easy to use. I think the Philips Mini Bluetooth Speaker is amazing given its size, weight, and price tag. I will be glad to have it in my pack this Spring.
