We are on rain catchment and I needed something to stop the debris from passing through the downspouts and into our catchment tank. These are an inexpensive solution that takes seconds to install. I don't understand the 1-star reviews from people complaining that they got clogged with leaves. That's their job. Stop the leaves. Too many leaves will stop the water. That's not a bug, it's a feature. If you have a lot of trees around your house you'll need to clean these more often. If you can't clean the strainers, don't install them on your roof. These are not a set-it-and-forget it solution. They will require periodic cleaning. I bought these 6 years ago. In that time the price changed from $16 to $11. They are a better value now than when I bought them.

05.24.2023 - rewrote this review due to issue… Bottom Line: - I’d look for other options, but might end up buying these again. Pros: - aluminum. - flexible so fits easily into any size opening needed. (Provided the opening isn’t too large of course) Cons: - be very careful how ‘deep’ you install this in the downspout opening. I put it too deep, and debris built up on TOP of it, and then pushed the whole thing down INSIDE the downspout. I had to take the downspout apart and luckily found it inside there, before it was pushed down into the underground drainage pipes. That would have been horrific. Other comments: - so in the middle of a heavy rainfall this spring, i noticed water coming over the sides of our gutters. So while it is still pouring out, i got a ladder and looked at the gutter. I saw a bunch of debris (leaves and flowers from trees) built up on top of the downspout location. Before I could do anything, I literally watched as the ‘gutter guard’ was ‘sucked’ down the downspout along with most of the debris! I couldn’t believe my eyes. I checked one other downspout i could get to, and made sure bottom of the gutter guard was just barely in the top of the downspout, in hopes of not having a repeat. Since I’ve recovered the gutter guard that got sent down the downspout and repositioned it so it was sitting as high as possible, I have not had a repeat issue. Might not have any issues until the fall when more debris is expected though, since most of the falling debris from trees in the spring has already occurred. - in a perfect world, these would be created a little taller with a ‘flange’ at about 1 inch from the bottom to prevent these from getting sucked down. - it is important that these stand as high as possible, so if debris builds up on the bottom of it, water can still go OVER the debris and then down the spout through the gutter guard. But if it is too low and debris is able to buildup on TOP of the gutter guard, it will just clog up and not allow water to pass. - there might not be better options available in this price range, but I would at least look.

4.5 stars This strainer can be easily shaped to fit a non-standard gutter drain hole, and keeps debris from getting into the downspout. That's important for me because we have a long rather narrow drain pipe that drains some distance away, and the roof collection area isn't big enough to collect enough rain water to flush out the pipe. The downside is that the debris clogs the strainer and builds up gunk on the mesh, and needs frequent cleaning.

...I have underground/under deck long drainage lines that have proven do be one big pain in the back and wallet to clear. I've had enough. So I just installed a dozen gizmos to eliminate glogged downspouts and lines. Listen, your gutters are going to overflow anyway with a glogged downspout or a clogged line, AND once the leaves build up around these screens. Take it from me and my experience - gutters are easy to clean out. All that other stuff is not. These do what they're designed to do and are easy to install. I am, however, adding the EZ gutter guard thingies, too. This will eliminate the periodic gutter cleaning necessity as well. Hint: temporarily back off on the screw(s) holding the downspout to the gutter's exit to allow a deeper insertion. Now if I could just improve upon my math skills - I have 12 downspouts. I bought 4 packs of these. Huh? Must be old age.

Bought this product to minimize time on the roof to clean gutters as our house is surrounded by tulip trees. Since installing these, I’ve had to clean the gutters weekly. This product is great for preventing the downspout from clogging, especially if your downspouts are buried. Unfortunately, these create a dam wherever they are placed. A week’s worth of debris accumulation will lead to standing water in gutters after a light rain. After a moderate to heavy rain your gutters will overflow. This product might be good where the house is well clear of trees.

I have been using these in my downspouts for decades. They last a very long time and there's no need to crawl up on the roof (well, my roof) to remove downspout strainer, just a ladder on ground level. These are my go to for a cost effective way to keep my downspout functioning correctly.

Designed only for keepjng leaf debris from clogging the downspout. Liked that it was simple to insert/shape in the individual downspouts. Lightweight metal mesh material. A cheap alternative to full gutter mesh installations...

These wire mesh downspout leaf guards are quite clever in that you can mold them to fit the size of your downspout. I had one downspout where I wanted a low profile and another where I wanted the guard sitting up higher. I was able to mold each guard to fit the need and finished the install of all 4 guards in less than 30 minutes. I can't weigh in on sturdiness as the guards have been in place for only a short time. However I expect they will do well. A hero home product in my book!
