IF AN EGYPTIAN CANNOT SPEAK ENGLISH

I loved everything about this! There's the experimental style and especially the unexpected turns that leave you wondering. The characters are so complex and well-developed and I love that you don't get any obvious good guys or bad guys. As well, you feel like you are literally in Cairo, the way the setting is so vividly established. The entire book is seeping with poetry and just such a pleasure to read, you never want it to end.

Not always fun, but deeply engaging, this book is a must read. I loved the experimentation with form and voice. The writer manages to be at once political and personal as she pokes at all our complacency.

Loved the clever format. Complex, bu highly relatable characters presented in an easy breezy style for ideas of great import.
