Will this detect fake scottish and northern ireland notes? how will i know what i'm looking for?

Yes it does - all Scottish and Northern Irish bank notes have UV security features. On a genuine bank note there are UV features which illuminate in a different colour under the UV Note Checker - the rest of the note will remain dull. On a fake bank note the whole note will glow under the UV light and the special UV features will not change colour.There are many different types of UV features on the Scottish and Northern Irish bank notes - a lot of them appear as a barcode pattern. Can this be used with the new £5 notes

Yes this works on the new polymer Â£5 note as well as the current paper bank notes. There is a full colour guide included in the box which shows where the UV marks are located on all the bank notes and how to check them, as well as showing all the other security features. This note checker will also work on the new polymer Â£10 note (due to be issued in summer 2017) and the new polymer Â£20 note (due to be issued by 2020).
