Review: Transformational for everyone from trainee teachers to experienced practitioners to school leaders - An outstanding, highly supportive guide for teachers at any level. As a teacher educator I use this on a daily basis - with first year ITE participants, with those who have been teaching in the classroom for 10+ years, and with subject and school leaders - and it’s invaluable for teachers at all of these levels. The clarity with which effective strategies are broken down and exemplified improves the chance that their effective components will be understood by the reader, and whilst the included DVD is now a relic, there is a link to a website included where you can view online copies of all of the videos referenced throughout the book. I couldn’t recommend this highly enough for any teacher at any phase, primary or secondary, and am eagerly awaiting the release of the third version (whenever that will be!). Review: Put Teach Like A Champion at the top of your reading list - PowerPoint, and constructivist pedagogies have been slowing killing off effective teaching and learning in the classroom. If you are 1. looking to reinvigorate your teaching, or 2. looking to affirm best practice in effective teaching and learning, or 3. training as a teacher, or 4. thinking about training as a teacher, or 5. a school leader who has lost touch with good classroom practice, or 6. a professor of education who has either never been in a classroom or you have but have forgotten the reality of effective teaching and learning, .....I think you get the point......Teach Like A Champion is hands-down the single most important book you can buy. It is a rigorous and hands-on-practical 'what-to-do' guide for the art of getting the best out of students in the classroom. Simply, it is essential reading for anyone calling themselves an educator.

Undoubtedly the most powerful guide to making rapid classroom improvement
There is no book that does what this book does. It allows you an insight into the macro and micro practices of some of the most effective teachers on the planet and shows you step-by-step how to emulate them. You will discover so much about teaching that you will be giddy with the anticipation of implementing champion techniques. Your classroom will calm, your demeanour will strengthen and your students will thrive. If you are involved in teacher training you should without a doubt use this book to help your trainees avoid the sleepless and enfeebling guilt and shame associated with recalcitrant and non-compliant students who have been systematically failed for years by ineffective pedagogies and grown accustomed to intellectual flaccidity, torpor and apathy. Take this book with both hands and free your students' minds through the super-hero empowerment of mastering the greatest content civilisation has to offer. Buy this book.

Excellent guidance on how to apply teaching techniques
Excellent guidance on how to apply teaching techniques. Methods are described clearly in plane language and sufficient background "philiosophy" is presented is sufficient detail. Only drawback is that much of the teaching specific terminology is different to what I have been used to in the UK.

Interesting book with some very good ideas. It is written for the US education system so never quite sure which age they are talking about. Most of the examples come from the teaching of English, so the problems and the solutions are not always directly relevant to other subjects. However, the message of this book is about reconsidering some of the approaches you have in the classroom and some of the poorer habits you might have slipped into. The book is written in a non-judgemental way, accepting that we all make errors but it is what we do about them that really matters. This is a good book for established teachers and those new to the classroom.

Practical for teachers new and veteran
I've been teaching for over 20 years and this book still taught me new stuff. It refreshed my application of methods I already used and breathed life back into my passion for high quality teaching. Whilst the DVD inside the book demonstrates an approach to teaching that may not appeal to everyone, there is no doubting the results. You don't have to follow everything that's suggested, just take what would be useful for you and to your style of teaching. I can assure you, it's packed with practical ideas for new teachers and veterans alike and has been my go to text for the last couple of years now.

First teaching book you should read
Honestly, I feel sorry for the pupils I taught BEFORE I read TLAC. I often get asked as to which education books I’d recommend (it’s part of my job). TLAC is always top of the list. It’s an amazing toolkit or practical, highly effective teaching techniques. It’s clear, well written, and the extensive collection of videos let you see it in action. Honestly couldn’t recommend it more.

Best teaching book I've read in a long time!
I bought this book as it had been recommended by a colleague and I can honestly say it has had an impact on my classroom already. It takes a while to get used to the "American" style (particularly when you watch the video clips) but it is worth it. I liked the fact that he doesn't focus on what he does well, but it is a reflection (over years) of the techniques used by outstanding classroom practitioners. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who wants to excell at teaching; I wish I had read it years ago!

Build a joyful class culture in which intellectual risk-taking is encouraged and celebrated.
A seminal text. While perhaps best known by for its behavior management strategies, I’ve learned in my 10+ years as a public school educator that its greatest value comes with its treatment of higher level topics. To name a few: increasing “thinking ratio,” *effectively* checking for student understanding (at each stage of the lesson - not just as the end!), creating a positive “culture of error,” “excavating” error (to help students learn from common misconceptions), teaching the “art of the sentence,” and the list goes on. As a teacher and school leader, I’ve seen countless teachers rely upon the concepts and shared language this text provides on their way to becoming dynamic, engaging, highly- effective teachers. Thanks goodness for this book. P.S. For white people (like myself) who teach majority people of color, I believe it’s important to pair TLAC - and others that are similar - with texts that offer invaluable cultural context. Books like “How to Be an Antiracist” (Kendi), “White Fragility” (Denagelo), and “For White Folks...” (Emdin). No one book should ever be considered the end-all-be-all, especially for white folks who need to be extra thoughtful about the impact of their words and actions on their students.

Useful
Tris book is a great tool for both teachers who are at the beginning of their career and more experienced teachers.

One of the best education books I've read
Teach Like A Champion 2.0 is one of the finest books about education I've ever read, and I usually dislike books about education. The central contention of Lemov's research is that veteran teachers are a critical source of professional knowledge. This expertise is not developed by reading books of theory; it is gained through decades of work in the classroom by dedicated, practical and thoughtful K-12 teachers who have little interest in escaping from their students. Lemov's research is based on observing and systematizing their work, and his summary is an outstanding example of classroom-based research. Some people will, of course, despise the book. I've seen many education professors on social media twist themselves into knots over TLAC. The idea that front-line practitioners are a better source than professors for good professional instruction is a profound threat, and it shows. Certain activists who believe that political philosophy must equal educational philosophy are also suspicious of the book, though most have apparently not read it. For them, a concept like classroom management must necessarily be code for domination and compliance, despite classroom management being an essential skill for any teacher who aspires to a successful career. I completed a Master's degree in philosophy, and yet I've never seen education as a philosophical or theoretical exercise. If it exists, educational theory must grow out of practice; theory must not drive the bus. As such, TLAC is a breath of fresh air. I read it 26 years into my public school career, and it was a revelation to see clarity and insight brought to processes I have worked on all my career. In my opinion, it's an essential read for all new teachers. For veterans, Lemov's book will significantly refine your professional skills. If you're serious about classroom teaching, you owe it to yourself to read Teach Like A Champion 2.0.
