Excellent home office printer, but calibrate first for best results.
Decided to replace a mono laser, which bit the dust, with a color laser. I wasn't expecting super high quality compared to full-size corporate printers, but then I wasn't paying several thousand dollars either. I expected to see some uneven color or banding, but there was absolutely none!To confirm, I looked for a color printer test page online and found one by a company called "Cartridge People" Colors were bright and vivid, but I noticed a tiny gap between some colors. I figured there had to be a way to calibrate it, but that required hunting down a full product manual, as only a terse quick setup guide is included in the box. Once I found the how-to, I reran the test page and everything lined up beautifully! One additional problem (and the reason for deducting a star) is that whether selecting default print settings, or going deep into the print dialog to find the "Fit To Page" option, the bottom of the test page was clipped both times. That is unacceptable, but I am sure I will come across a solution in time. To be fair, it was also clipped in the print preview, but there needs to be an easy way to adjust scaling on the fly, as I've had with other printer drivers. So final test, knowing that laser printers aren't really designed for photos, was to print a family photo anyway -- on plain copy paper no less. Colors were a little on the flat side, which wasn't a surprise, but overall quality was much better than expected. Better results than I've had from the aforementioned corporate printers, though I'd still use an inkjet or a commercial photo printer for photos, but in a pinch, this printer will do the job.Bear in mind that when it does come time to replace the starter toner cartridges included with the printer, which due to DRM (Boo!) must be genuine HP products, you'll pay about as much to replace the cartridges as the printer cost to begin with. Compared to the cost of inkjet cartridges; over the long haul, you'll pay far less per page, and not have to deal with persistent self-cleaning ink-wasting routines commonly found in modern inkjet printers.

Lacking in features over older HP models
The media could not be loaded. I initially gave this 3 stars but gave this 4 Stars since I assumed an HP all-in-one Laserjet Pro (professional/office environment) would have the same basic functions of its HP predecessors. We purchased this printer to replace an almost 10 year old HP all in one laser M425 black and white printer. The things mentioned below were all standard on that and two other legacy HP laser models so the ASSumption on my part was that those features were standard in a PRO model.1 - initially you cannot SCAN 2-sided docs automatically. You could scan the stack, flip and add pages to the scan but they are out of order. As in 1,3,5… then 2,4,6. Using the HP Smart app for Windows that all the documentation suggests it’s fairly useless in the business environment for scans, large document printings from PC, etc. If you download the full HP printer package (NOT mentioned in the startup sheet/guide) you can do a multi-step scan of 2-sided docs in the correct order but you must use the pc software and not the printer’s scan to file/pc function. The PC software will prompt you when and how to flip the stack and after finishing scanning the software will automatically resort the document back into the correct order. The printer itself cannot do this even after a firmware update.2 - you CANNOT copy a 2-sided document onto a 2-sided piece of blank paper. I thought I was not understanding something but after multiple HP chat sessions this is simply not an option. So if you need to copy a quick 6 page front and back document for a client it’s going to take a long moment to flip and re-enter sheets the correct direction or just go the wasteful route and only use the fronts of the new copied pages.3 - the TRAY 1 literally holds a single sheet of paper. You hand it a sheet and like a drink machine dollar taker it pulls the specialty piece of paper into the printer. There is NO documentation included to show anything about how the TRAY 1 operates. We do a lot of specialty printing on check stock, card stock and long forms. Traditional HP laserjet Pro printers TRAY 1 would allow you to load 10-50 sheets depending on thickness. My first test of this printer I stuck a stack of 5 sheets of plain copy paper into TRAY 1 slot and it pulled them in. I sent a test print to the TRAY 1 and the printer immediately jammed. It pulled the stack of 5 sheets into the document feed all at once, jamming the paper path. Searched the internet and discovered this slot - mentioned NOWHERE in the documentation - will only handle a single sheet of specialty or plain paper at a time. So now on special card stock projects someone must stand or sit by the printer and feed it one sheet at a time. For a laser printer it’s good for basic printing, etc but these missing features that all of our former HP Laserjet Pro models contained makes it not a great printer for our specific needs. If you’re mostly printing, then the color and the all black options are super crisp and true to life on colors. In printing regards it’s everything I expect an HP laser to offer in quality for printing. It’s just the act of scanning, and TRAY 1’s ability to NOT handle more than a single sheet of specialty media that’s highly annoying. So if you print a lot and the rest of the features like scanning and 2-sided copying are not that important to you, it’s a great printer. If you deal with printed contracts that have to be scanned in after being signed and sent off to other departments, companies etc or you do a lot of 2-sided scanning just remember this has a weird learning curve with additional software for some things and others it simply cannot do.We are moving this model to a different office and looking for another all-in-one that’s more PRO oriented locally so we can play with the features first.

Damn this is Nice
I had an older HP1413 color laser - two in fact. They both lasted years and were very trouble free. My second one just quit working wirelessly and when shopping I was hesitant to consider another HP as the interface is cumbersome but The Wirecutter recommended this one so I bit the bullet.Wow, by far my favorite feature is the two sided printing. That cuts paper use in half and it's seamless. Print quality is amazing - even better than my last one which was pretty good. The speed is twice as fast as my last HP printer. The wireless set up was a pain. It connected to my wireless network but wouldn't print at first but it just took time. Apple had to download the driver and once it was finally hooked up and connected its printing from the laptop, the iPad, the iPhone - all the devices can connect. My last printer managed almost 10 years so while I'm not thrilled about the toner costs I'm very happy with this printer so far.

Great printer but delicate touchsreen
Fantastic printer, beautiful color. I had a previous model Mp1 as well.My only caveat is that the touchscreen sticks out from the front top and can be damaged when moving printer if you are not careful.Touchscreen broke on my older unit when moving, and I haven't been able to use it at all since. But I loved it too, hence the new HP purchase.
