Personality Adaptations: A New Guide to Human Understanding in Psychotherapy and Counselling

Then I tried it out on my client resulting in a very useful session. He said buoyantly
Last night I was feeling stuck about where therapy was going with one of my clients. I've been working my way through this book and finding it helpful. I realised that I didn't know which personality adaptation fit this client. So I took out the book and within a few minutes was able to make a provisional diagnosis. That lead me to the section on how to work with this adaptation. Then I tried it out on my client resulting in a very useful session. He said buoyantly, midway through the session, "so we're doing something different today". For the first time in several sessions this normally quiet contained man became animated and able to think creatively about 2 issues he'd been worried about but could not solve. He then went on to work out a plan of action for both issues. Both of us felt the session had been exactly what he'd needed. Thanks Vann Joines & Ian Stewart for writing this book!

Excellent: clear and consice guide as a theory of understanding human behaviour
I already have TA Today and this book extends the thinking behind the approach. The book can be used as a stand alone understanding of Transactional Analysis as well as a guide to why people do what they do and how to understand unwanted repetitive behaviour.

Excellent book!
This book feels like the missing link between TA theory and practice. Really useful and practical for gaining rapid inisgits into potential client issues and needs.

Good and thought provoking introduction
Bought this with only a very basic grounding in TA, but it filled the gaps pretty well and I wasn't left behind. May be a good idea to start with their other book on TA first though, as this is very much a practical application of the concepts. I've just bought it, so no opinion yet.As it is designed with therapy in mind, the concentration is largely on the dysfunctional aspects of the various personality types, with the explicit caveat that these are the more extreme end of a continuum. A good concept, as a lot of the diagnostic and communication tools apply in general. Also like the history of personality typing section, which was very informative but did tend towards a "selling" of the model in question a bit too much.TA is a rather controversial subject for some people due to the rather experiential (rather than coldly scientific) basis for its theory, and this is one of the factors which gives me pause sometimes, but in general there are a lot of sensible and practical ideas here for how to deal with other people and understand some of their motivations.

Hello
Only read the start so far but very interesting reading. We should be taught this at school which would give everyone an idea how other people tick and thereby diffuse many an argument etc

Muy útil
Me gusta mucho.
