Safety Ice Tip Single Point For Canes by DO MORE

This might be a great defensive tool with any attack problem.
Excellent workmanship, very straight forward and a very POSITIVE addition to my dog-stick cane.( I just added a small layer of black duct-tape, to stop any slip and to match the cane, then I slowly adjusted the screws, with the piece open and its spike firmly resting against the cane's bottom and it feels like it was custom made for it. Very nice work, mate! )Where I like to walk gets a little wild, so I have sprays. But since the "kids" seem to enjoy releasing small packs of usually hungry guard-dogs around the area, a wee bit of "persuasion" from this, might become a necessity? ( BTW, I added a bit of dry dog-food to my pack.) *** Then I added a quick safety-covering about 4 1/4 " long, using some hollow, gray foam pipe-insulation. Its split, of course and I used a black scunci band to hold it, securely enough. ***So, has the builder thought about a second version, using his same solid work mounted on the other side, yet? (There are a lot of weapon builders around Amazon. And if someone makes something "special" for that second version, please let us know, okay? ;)

A Must Have for Slippery Conditions - Might save you from a broken hip or ankle at any age !
Well made and easy to install. Flips up and out of the way easily for when you get indoors. Highly recommend for anyone who uses a cane, crutches or walking stick in icy or slippery conditions (frankly I recommend one to people of any age when it is slippery out)Also as a installation tip, if you are worried about the finish or need to add to the diameter of that antique cane for a better fit, go to a hardware store and get a shot piece of clear plastic hose/tubing that you can slip over the shaft and then tighten the mounting screws down - Works Great !

Dead useful, despite being shipped hte wrong piece.
Just an fyi, the item I received is the 5pointed, folded sheet steel one (easily found here on amazon...), not the single pointed spike pictured here.Due to the necessity of having it, I didnt' make any fuss about this though, so I'll review the one I received. Given the storms that have been pounding the country these past few weeks, I couldn't have gotten mine at a better time. It took just a few minutes to mount on my cane, and I've lost count of how many times I've had to use it now. It is a definite must have for anyone on a cane or crutches who lives in an area that gets snow/ice!The design of these is really quite simple, and that is both their best and worst attribute. It is very easy to flip the spikes down for when you need them, and then to flip them back up is just as easy. My concern is that the one I received doesn't like to stay locked in the upright position, so I had to put a leash on it to keep it from flipping out and snagging on everything. The fact that it doesn't lock in place and stay up also has me a little weary of putting much weight on it when its in use. So far I haven't had any problems with it kicking out on ice, but I've also been extra cautious.

A must for anyone using a cane in icy conditions
The Safety Ice Tip Single Point for Canes device is perfect for those of us who live in frozen climes (like Vermont). The device is well made and looks like it will hold up over many winters. Absolutely a must have for ice!!! Only four stars at this point since we haven't actually tried it yet, but anticipate upgrading to five stars at the end of the winter. Stay tuned.12/15/2013. Update. We have now used this product for two winters and it works perfectly. Do not buy a multi-tip point as the single point is much more stable. Highly recommend!!!p.s. don't forget to fold the tip when storing in a car or otherwise. This tip is sharp.

Adds confidence
Very easy to attach to cane. Easy to flip up and down. It adds a needed level of confidence while out on the snowy, icy sidewalks.

came exactly as pictured
Unlike the previous review, this item came exactly as pictured. The 5 pronged spikes are dangerous: they are far worse than no spikes at all and nobody should ever use them. While not advertised for crutches, I have been using these single point spikes on my crutches here in Jacksonhole, WY. The traction is second to none. I've tried every ice pick I could find, and these have the best traction. Period. The point is centered in the crutch, so it feels more stable than you would expect. If you take care to install them snuggly, they don't even flex. I'm 185 pounds. I've been using them exclusively on walks everyday for more than a month, and they haven't failed me yet. I don't even flip them up for patches of dry pavement.I don't understand why these are labelled for "canes". It's pretty heavy and bulky for a cane, but I'm not using a cane, so I don't really know. It really seems made for crutches, but if you search "ice tip for crutches", you won't find these. That seems a shame to me, as this is the best product out there.Cons: I doubt that the TSA will let you get on a plane with them, so they would have to be removed for traveling. The point is so sharp that you will perforate just about any non-pavement surface that they touch if you were to forget to flip them up. They are bulky on the crutches in the house. I haven't ripped anything yet, but you have to be careful not to tear the side of your sofa as you go crutching by. The point is sharp. In my earlier edit of this review, I compared crutch tips to trekking poles, and wondered why the two manufacturers hadn't compared notes. Now that I'm in the heart of my second Wyoming winter on crutches, I think that I was wrong. I don't believe that ski pole or trekking pole technology could improve on these tips. They truly do have the best traction. When faced with smooth grey ice, I can't imagine anything better. I haven't fallen yet. That's worth a few unintentional rips of fabric in the house. How much does another broken leg cost?

Wouldn't go outside without it
We had freezing rain yesterday and I was very glad I had installed this. The point really digs into ice and packed snow and feels sturdy. I've tried the five pointed tips and prefer having a single point at the center of the cane. This arrangement makes me feel safer.

This is one to get for winter ice
I use a cane with an ice tip in winter. The one I had broke, and I bought this one. It is easy to attach and works very well. It's also easy to push in the white tabs and rotate the tip up and out of service. NY had a very bad winter, and this appliance kept me on my feet!
