I was very disappointed (and somewhat surprised) that my 2015 Tacoma didn't have a locking tailgate from the factory. I like to carry my bed extender, a couple of moving blankets, a tarp, some tools, etc., in the bed of the truck, but I was hesitant to do so without a locking tailgate to go with my hard tonneau cover. So I was exceptionally pleased to find this part.And even though the Amazon compatibility checker said this part isn't compatible with my 2015 Tacoma Pre-Runner, I checked the Pop & Lock web site--and read some of the other reviews here--and found that it is compatible. The package itself shows only 2005-2014, but I suspect that's because it was just old inventory. Anyway, it fit fine.Installation was incredibly easy. It took me less than 30 minutes start to finish, and it was only that long because I let my seven-year-old "help." My best advice would be to watch the installation video on Pop & Lock's web site once or twice to get the general idea of what you'll be doing. They even show close ups of some of the "tricky" parts, which really aren't that tricky. Then, follow the included instructions carefully to ensure you don't miss any of the steps; they are all important. The instructions are complete and fairly well written. However, they could be better formatted to make them easier to use. Perhaps the company was restricted to only the front side of a sheet of paper (warranty on the back) and no color photos.The instructions really emphasize that, when using the BOLT codeable key technology, you have to use the same key you will normally use for the truck. This made me worry that only one of my two Toyota factory keys would work. It seemed strange, but they make a huge deal out of it. Both keys do, in fact, work. I guess perhaps they're concerned that you'll try to test with your Hyundai key just for grins? And if you are trying to decide between this model and the PL5100 that has its own keys, definitely spend the extra $25 on this one so you can use your existing truck keys. Life is too short to have to worry about additional keys.Ultimately, I am extremely pleased with this lock. The handle itself doesn't feel as sturdy as the original Toyota one. However, I suspect that's because it's not as long, since part of the handle is now replaced by the lock. I guess time will tell how sturdy it will be. But until I actually experience problems, I'm going with five stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect fit, easy install (2012 Tacoma DCSB) *by J***L on Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2023* Wanted to secure my tailgate without working about electrical wiring. This fit the bill perfectly. Install was quick and painless. Everything seems solidly built and I don't have the same complaint as others regarding the lock feeling cheap. It clicks when it locks and unlocks so you audibly hear and feel the engagement/disengagement. I liked the full lift handle from the factory so that would be my only "dislike", which is pretty, would be the size of the handle. Again, it's pretty, and not really sure how they could've engineered it to be larger while still accommodating the lock and backup camera. Should've installed this back when I bought the truck in 2012! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Good upgrade for the 2014 Tacoma *by T***K on Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2014* This locking handle fits perfectly on my 2014 Tacoma Double Cab. Look up the install video on youtube first and it will show you how really simple this lock is to install, maybe 20 mins. tops. Only the one latch rod needs flipped around, but otherwise it's a straight swap for the existing tailgate handle, and with no issues with alignment of the back-up camera either, this is a simple and worthwhile upgrade to make. The new locking handle looks the part, although as others have noted, perhaps feels a little less sturdy than the original handle. I have also downgraded my rating because I have noticed that when opening the tailgate you can't slowly pull on this new handle, it doesn't seem to like that and must be sharply tugged open to ensure it opens smoothly. I don't think this is a major issue, but can make you feel the tailgate is stuck if not used to it. The keying does seem a little vague too with being just a quarter turn action. Overall though I think this is a good product and worthy addition to give you a little peace of mind that your tailgate will remain on your truck, deterring all but the most determined thieves.
