Unhinged Cain (Buchanan Brothers Book 1)

Unhinged indeed…
Holy hell what did I just read?! I wasn’t prepared for the sick twisted depravity that is Cain and Abel. Twins in every sense of the word. What one did to their body the other one made sure to duplicate it. One entity but two bodies. Cain~cold, clean, calculating psychopath and highly intelligent with an eye ball obsession. Abel~cold, psychotic and highly erratic. Both killers with no remorse for their victims. R@pe, sodomy, torture you name it they’ve done it without batting an eyelash. There are triggers galore for this dark deranged tale. So pay close attention to them because the author does not exaggerate them in this book.Cain has an obsession with eyes, the unique colors that he must have for his collection. Yes he has a collection of eyeballs. When he gets just a quick glimpse of Kirby he is fascinated by her unusual eye color and must find out who she is so he can add to his collection. But something is keeping him from killing his prey. She’s different, she sees him for who he really is and he’s not used to that. Abel and Cain have been a team since they were kids. Cain taking the time and effort to train Abel and teach him. When Cain finally stalks his prey and brings her back to his dungeon Abel thinks it’s going to be the same old same old, r@pe, torture and k!ll but Cain doesn’t want to share his shiny new toy and tells Abel not to touch her. Which really is waving a red flag in front of a bull and saying stay knowing damn well that bull is coming for your a$$.The longer Kirby is in captivity with Cain the less time he spends with his brother and Abel is not having any of it. Full of jealousy, anger and intent, Abel plans to take things into his own hands only to be cast out of his brothers life for good. The theory about don’t fall in love with a hero but the villain because the hero will sacrifice you to save the world but the villain will sacrifice the whole world to save you really is fitting in this book.Cain will prove his “love” for Kirby in a way that is very fitting to his nature. The next book in this duet will be Abel’s story. Twisted Abel by TL Hodel is already available. I’m not sure I’m ready for it yet, I might need to go read a few fluffy cuddly books first.

could use a proofreader
I’ve read seri a l k i ller books before, but this one revolves around innocent, young fe males that are brut ally un alive d, so be prepared. It’s gnarly. Gnarly. Yes, there is some redemption in the end, and I like how the story ended enough that I’d love to read another book about Cain and Kirby, but again, that’s the ending. The first 70% is brutal. This book also really needs a proofreader. It’s written well, but there a LOT of typos. Multiple on a single page. So many times it says ‘out’ when it should be ‘our’. Or ‘in’ vs ‘it’. Typos like that, but they are very frequent.Overall, I did like the book. I’m not sure yet if I’m going to read book 2. I couldn’t stand Abel in this book. He’s the more brutal of the 2 brothers, and his personality is absolutely trash. He’s painfully obnoxious, the kind of person you leave a party if he walks in. I don’t even have the words to describe how annoying he is. The end of this book perhaps set Abel up for a transformation of character, but I’d have to read it to believe it, and I’m not sure I have enough faith that Abel can become someone I’d dedicate reading an entire book about. We’ll see.

Brooklyn truly blew my mind with this unhinged romance!
Brooklyn truly blew my mind with this unhinged romance. It’s psychotic, brilliant, and full of suspense - check your triggers at the door though because this talented author holds no boundaries within these pages.Kirby is a young woman that is being forced to follow in her FBI agent mother’s footsteps. She’s refreshingly intelligent, yet longing to set her own path and break free of the shackles that are holding her down. Little did she realize that when she broke free of one set of chains, the actions would land her in another.Cain is brilliantly terrifying with his obsessive and methodical ways. He’s a talented artist that has a one of kind collection and when his sight lands on Kirby, he knows he just found his most prized piece to add to it.This book was such an insane, and insanely dark, read that I couldn’t put down at all. I loved how Brooklyn gave Cain and Kirby so much depth - it was like trading the darkness for light when switching POVs and I really could visualize these two easily. She kept me on the edge of my seat and glued to my kindle with the unpredictability and suspense. This was unexpected surprise find while searching for something that would push all my boundaries and I truly want to flip back to the beginning to relive it again because Brooklyn hit beyond all my expectations with this read and did it flawlessly.

Did NOT See This One Coming!
Ok…so let jump into this!First and foremost, read the trigger warnings. I’ll remind you again…trust me. I, however, am not one to read them. I take recommendations blindly. By chapter 2, I was like WTF did I sign up for 😳 but it wasn’t anything to steer me running in the opposite direction. What can I say…I like dark? 🤔So unfolding two stories, in multiple POV. We learn Cain and Able are twins, who just so happen to unalive people. Able is a bit of a loose cannon. Cain likes control. Together they form the perfect mix of crazy psycho.Kirby is in a terrible relationship with a top tier jerk. She’s the daughter of an FBI agent, and currently in the program to become one, unwillingly. One night on a dark road, she becomes Cain’s obsession. And cue the most f’d up story you may read. But in truth I could NOT put it down. This is my first book by Brooklyn and I will most certainly be looking for more. She has the perfect mix of dark and twisted that I like.Again, READ 👏🏼 THE 👏🏼 TRIGGER 👏🏼 WARNINGS 👏🏼. This book will not be for everyone. There are things that are going to make you uncomfortable. But hang tight! It’s a fun ride 🖤

dārk + beautiful
First, I want to say that this book is *dārk* and very tr¡gger-heavy so please think about yourself before diving in and only do so if you feel comfortable with the wārnings. However, as someone who loves the darker side of romance and doesn't really have any tr¡ggers, I very quickly loved this book. I read someone say it's like Cr¡minal Minds from the k¡ller's POV and that's fairly accurate. I find sėrial k¡llers interesting (I'm one of *those* girls) and Crim¡nal Minds is one of my favourite shows so getting Cain's POV and his thoughts and processes behind what he does felt int¡mate and made me very intrigued by him. His dynamic with his brother, again, had me gripped. Cain is the classic alpha in their pairing and, whilst they work together like a well oiled machine, he has to keep him in check. Abel is wild and idk whether I'm excited or scåred to read his book. He is definitely the more *tw¡sted* of the two.As I was reading, I was questioning how "romantic" this "dark romance" was and would I really get to a point of rooting for and falling for this ūnal¡ver who seemingly has no remørse or emotions. Enter Kirby, our FMC. Her life is cōntrolled by her Mother and she's just going through the motions of living to please everyone around her. Her boyfriend is an āss and is yet another thing she does to earn her Mother's respect. She unknowingly becomes entangled in Cain's spiderweb, she doesn't realise he is learning every thing about her ready to help her become her truest self. He wants her to see that with him, she can be exactly who she is meant to be. She yearns for more, she yearns for purpose and with Cain, she finds it. I didn't think I would but I found myself swooning for this calm, controlled k¡ller along with Kirby. They change each other for the better and it really was romantic and beautiful. And if that makes me unh¡nged too then that's what I am.𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙚.

Well wow
This book was beyond what I could ever have expected. Its so so so sooooo dark and yet.. delicious. I can't say too much without spoiling it for you but be prepared to be throuroughly shocked. Even in the first few chapters. There are things that Cain and Abel do things that you think you'll find irredeemable and yet somehow, at least in this book, Cain was. This book blew my mind, read it in a day, barely ate because I was simply so engrossed I forgot 😅There were times the book got so dark and had to put it down and take a mental breather, in my mind though this is a sign of a great, engaging story!Thank you Cross for giving me something I didn't know I needed! If I could give a book 20 stars I would 😁

Interesting read
I love a good dark stalker romance and this book hit must of the notes I like. Added in with the cat and mouse chasing and serial killing twins and it was a win. Abel and cain have a very twisted relationship. In which the controlled cain has to keep the chaos of his brother in line. Kirby seems to never fit in with the lifestyle her mother forces her to conform with, so it was only a matter of time before she saw the light and broke free.

Dark, dangerous and different!
This was so different, I don't think I've read anything similar to this before. Cain is dark and dangerous and a k!ller,Kirby doesn't fit in anywhere and her mother is a total b!tch. To see the dynamic change between Kirby and Cain is fascinating, a bit Stockholm Syndrome and a bit Kirby stepping into the darkness. I now need to find out what happens to Abel!

slow blink
I don’t know WHAT it says about me, but gosh darn it, I loved this book 😳 I can’t explain it at all, it popped up on my TikTok fyp and I was intrigued. It didn’t fail me at all. I was in a bit of a slump to books holding my attention and this GRIPPED IT (like Cains and to Kirby’s thrøat 😜)Anywho, off to download Abel’s book, and I’m slightly scared 😅
