I use them for nutrient storage for my indoor hydroponic systems, and because they are black, no algae forms inside. The buckets are very thick plastic and I expect them to last forever. The lids are a bit difficult to open, due to the thickness of the plastic, but I solved that by making 1/8" slits with a box cutter, between the locking tabs. That gave enough flexibility to make opening much easier. After 6 weeks the cuts have not increased in size, and I open and close every day.
