Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes: Fantasy Skirmish Miniatures Rules: Volume 1

Song of Blades and Heroes, and its assorted spin offs, has been a great success in the world of miniature gaming - the product of a small, independent publisher, but which has gained a dedicated world wide following. Simple to play, requiring only a handful of models, and only as much space as is afforded by a typical kitchen table, the game has become deservedly popular.This "advanced" version is actually pretty much the same game, although it collates and tidies up some things, like weather effects, from some of the expansion material. The two real additions are a reaction mechanic, whereby failed activation dice can be used by your opponent to activate his figures, and a greatly expanded magic section. Crucially, these new rules don't complicate or slow the game down, but do add extra layers of strategy to play. As such, I would say this is definitely the version of the game to get, a certain improvement on what was already a great fantasy miniatures game.

It is a good game although not much of a step up from the basic Song of Blades and Heroes.
