DK Top 10 Porto (Pocket Travel Guide)

These Top 10 Books are all you need...
I travel a lot, and have bought many, many travel books over the years and decades. Most are useful, but ALL share one trait... they are big & heavy, and are a pain to travel with, especially if you only bring carry-on luggage. Also, they typically have much more info than the average traveler really needs. These 'Top 10' guides, in contrast, are the exact opposite. Small, light, to-the-point, and have the important info you need, and none of the filler that you don't. Most of us don't need to know every last detail of a place we're visiting... we have limited time, need to know the highlights and the "best of", and we want to be able to throw the book in a backpack during our daily outings, and not have to decide between the weight of a book vs a water bottle, because both would make the day pack too heavy! These books are absolutely Perfect for 99% of all travelers' needs... Highly recommended!!

Spot-On Travel Guide
I love DK Eyewitness travel guides and this one did not disappoint. Lightweight size with accurate maps, itineraries,...everything you could want for a long weekend holiday.

Great for Porto
This was very helpful for planning our daily outings in Porto. The included maps are great. The pages and maps are sturdy and seem to have a water resistant coating.

Print too small…. More of a reference book not Tripp
I return this book because the font is so small. You need a magnifying glass to read it. Secondly, it is more of a general reference book and not an actual travel book. Did not really enjoy.

You don’t get the typical DK eyewitness guide
You don’t get the typical, inimitable format, but one supposed-to-be adapted to online reading without most of the illustrations, plain and utterly disappointed. Never again.

A great little guide that misses a few tricks
First and foremost, the advice that driving around Porto is not recommended is excellent, and cannot be emphasised strongly enough. So save yourself some money by not hiring a car and get yourself the Andante Tourist Card (see page 110 of the Guide), an absolute steal at €16 for 72 hrs. And this is where I think the guide misses a trick or two. The first one is that it should contain a map of the Metro system, and the second is that each recommended place to visit should contain details of the nearest Metro Station. The guide should also stress that in order to maximise the use of the Metro, it's essential to find out beforehand where the line you intend to use terminates, otherwise you could end up travelling in the wrong direction. Nonetheless as with all of these guides, for me, they're second only to passports in essential items to pack. As for Porto, it's absolutely stunning and I can hardly wait to pay it a repeat visit.
