Modern day western?
The characterisation of the 4 brothers I thought was a great dynamic and well played by all. What struck me was subtle references to western genre in a modern setting. Detroit's desolate streets echoed back to the western genre that inspired this film, Sons of Katie Elder. The absence of the police (mostly corrupt) at times of the shoot-outs - another throwback to the lawless days depicted in Westerns. Atmospheric tensions when the brothers entered the bars/clubs. I watched many western films as a child with my father. Shame the Sofia character fulfilled a very stereotypical passive role - lover, cook and cleaner 🙄 - she could have been given a more active role in the big shoot-out, for example. Despite that, I was surprised how much i enjoyed the film.

A remarkable film well worth watching
I absolutely loved this film, I wasn't sure I would do when readying about it, but I saw a trailer and it looked good so thought I would watch it and give it a go.The story centres around three brothers that return home for their mother's funeral, where they reunite with the fourth. While making arrangements after her death, the boys learn she may have been murdered. They decide it's up to them to solve the mystery behind her death and get revenge. The good thing is each of the boys is different, they have a different character, they are not brothers in the real sense of having the same parents, they are adoptive brothers, so having different upbringings gives this film a real gritty edge, and combining that with the murder of the person that they loved, that bought them up that cared for them, keeps you on the edge of your seat following the story closely.I would say the film itself is more a modern day gangster/crime based film, there are lots of plot twists, a lot of action and there is no way you could not be enthralled watching the movie. Gruesome and violent at times, but the film needs that for it to make sense. The plot isn't the strongest, but with the action, the family, the relationships that more than makes up for a slightly weak plot.Four Brothers show that a bond is stronger than anything and that getting revenge on your mother's killer isn't always going to work in a way they expected. The way the four brothers work together Bobby (Mark Wahlberg), Angel (Tyrese Gibson), Jeremiah (André Benjamin) and Jack (Garrett Hedlund) is great, you have the baby of the group, the wannabe rockstar Jack who has struggled his whole life. Bobby is the eldest, the more screwed up, the one that seems to have the most to hide and doesn't want the world to know him. Jeremiah is the settled one, the business men the one with a family, maybe the one with the most to hide? then you have Angel the strongest of them all, the one in trouble with the law, the one you wonder about a lot. So many contrasts, so many things to follow, so interesting all the way through.A dark thriller, well worth watching even if you don't like this type of movie, its a fast action packed film.

Strange movie but watchable
It's a strange film this as Mark Wahlberg gets to play a part he probably has dreamed of. Personally, I've never found him to be a good actor but the cast around him are strong. The story has a few twists and expected turns and you are left asking yourself 'where are the police?' when all the guns fights are happening in the streets.A watchable movie if you are bored.

Good Revenge Movie
This was one of those films that I thought that I would not enjoy, but when I finally bought it at a veryinexpensive price, I found it to my liking.Loosely based on The Sons of Katie Elder it is a crime thriller where the adopted sons of Evelyn Mercer, played by Fionnula Flanagan seek out the truth about her murder at a local convenience store in Detroit.Mark Wahlberg plays the lead role as Bobby and with his brothers takes on corrupt city officials, a corruptcop and anyone else who dares to get in the way.Jack Mercer, played by Garrett Hedlund at age 21 is very convincing as the youngest of the Mercer boys. There is a great deal of violence and mayhem which carries the film to the most obvious conclusion. For a film that I avoided watching for years, I enjoyed it. I should not judge a book by its cover.109 minutes viewingSubtitled for the Hearing Impaired in English.

its just mind flippingly implausible.So.. apparentl Detroit is JUST SOME ARTIC DESERT WAsteland? whereby NO witness ever exist.. even the pool hall is desolate of would be witnesses and CCTVand like wise no extras were used in the entire film seemingly.(im not American but) warberg seems to have a boston accent.. the black brother has a African America accent despite 'all growing up together'

wouldnt watch again
very broken up story at first, very hard to figure out whats going on until you get into it.Various gramatical errors and worse of all the use of the same vocaubulary (the police and the mercers in different scenes completely, both say the word "execution" which you wouldnt expect both groups to say in different scenes, maybe in an interview/interrogation.Used to like mark walhberg too now i just think hes cheesy he has no skill anymore its all thrown together movies with the same bad ass personality in every movie, complete garbage, all the good actor are dying off.
