BG Electrical WP23-01 Single Outdoor Weatherproof Unswitched Socket, IP66 Rated, 13 Amp, Grey

I fitted this by our front door so I could plug in the granny cable for our PHEV and leave it connected. Not that it will make much difference if someone wants it but I fitted a small padlock on it.Quality socket from a reputable brand, works as it should does not get warm even with a constant 10A draw so im happy.If you have a PHEV and don't want to go the full hog of a wall box then this socket is a good option wired up to a fused spur with some good quality 2.5mm.

If, like me you charge your EV (mine is a 2021 Kia e- Niro - wonderful) then you might have the problem I had. The weatherproof socket plug holes were offset so the thick cable was not allowing the unit to close properly. This unit is not offset so makes it much easier.

A simple and good value weatherproof socket. Just suited the purpose. The locking mechanism is easy to use and positive, unlike some others that I have had.

its not the most robust outside socket I have seen, but easy to install and great for occasional use. also looks nice on the outisde, so good for the front of houses.

This took me by surprise when it arrived as it was nearly twice the size of the socket I was replacing.That said, it still fitted OK although I was less happy about the drip hole required in case water found its way into the rear of the case. Surely this should be IP67 or better?Anyway, it's been fitted now for a few weeks, I've used it a few times and it does the job. The price was OK.If I had to buy again I'd consider looking at the size of the comparable units and getting a switched unit as I was uncomfortable unplugging the Karcher without first being able to switch the mains off. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

These scockets are fine when used with devices drawing only a few amps, but ARE NOT SAFE when used with high current devices (10-13A) such as EV chargers. I had two of these sockets, the first melted and I replaced it with the same model, but that also overheated and was going the same way until I turned it off. There is a design (or manufacture) defect in these sockets that results in the contact area of the live pin being too small for high current, particularly if the plug uses sheathed pins (as my EV charger does).I have now replaced the socket with an MK Masterseal Plus one and have had no problems since.
