Easy replacement for an 18 year old sinking gas lift.
I had been reading and watching various reviews with a view to buying a new computer seat.My own one was sinking too quickly and easily of late.I tried the "fix" of fitting a solid steel tube between the top of the damper body and seat base. Not such a good idea. You completely lose out on that cushioning effect you normally get when sitting yourself onto the seat.Seeing how cheap these replacement gas lifts were on Amazon prompted me to search YouTube for videos on how to remove/replace them.Removal of the old gas lift was managed with a little persuasion from a 21 oz hammer, but the addition of a squirt of WD40 or similar is also recommended. Fitting the new one is just a matter of literally dropping wide end of gas lift into place in hole in chair base and placing seat on narrow top of gas lift. Sit on it, job done. No tools required. If I had known how easy these were to replace, I would have done it years ago.Full cushioning on landing has been restored. The seat stays at whatever height chosen. The loose, wobbling I had also been noticing has completely gone. This is on a seat rescued from my family GP 17 years ago, discarded due to a broken castor support in the base. The dating on the seat base adjustment bracket was 1997. The gas lift was the original one supplied with the seat when new.Update 17th May 2016.It is 5 months since I fitted this gas lift and not once has the seat needed adjustment.Update 28th February 2017.Now over 14 months since fitting and still not needing any adjustment.

Great Product
Very pleased with the replacement gas lift piston - it has revived a failing chair. Measure the existing piston carefully (diameters top & bottom), choose the required height adjustment. It is a very sturdy product - ideal for its function & very easy to fit - took me 5mins to reassemble the chair. Happy Days.

Perfect repair for office chair
This was extremely easy to fit in a few minutes the hardest thing for me was to remove the old cylinder. The extra height provided by this piston is so useful and makes it much better for sitting at my desk. Many other pistons were similar to my old one which was not really high enough. Remember that just because it gives extra height you don't necessarily need to use it but its there if needed. I would highly recommend this piston.

Fails to hold position
This gas list has trouble holding height. Small movements and gently sitting down can cause a rather too common sinking feeling. Using at full extension seems to be okay. Sitting heavily and adjusting height when fully loaded is not too bad, but attempting to raise an inch is almost impossible.

Do not buy if you are a heavy person
This is the second one I purchased and both have failed in exactly the same way. I am a heavy guy at 19 Stone (121KG) which is why I purchased this as it was advertised with a 200KG limit. The first one I purchased was 11 inch which was way taller than my origional chair so I assume that was the reason for the failure. However after purchasing the 9 inch and the same issue occuring I can only conclude that they are not fit for purpose.

Revitalise or improve your old chair. Cost much less than a new chair,
At the end of 2015 I bought a nice office style chair Brand New Designed Racing Sport Swivel Office Chair in Black Red Colour with a seat height given as 57cm from the ground. In fact the height was only 52cm, with 53.5cm using the tilt. Recently it has crept down a little to around 51cm, which for my height (6') and leg length began to aggravate an old low back problem. Otherwise I am happy with the chair, so I researched possible solutions for my problem and discovered replacement gas lifts!Having considered quite a few different heights, styles and types I settled on the 9" (replacing a 7") and this make, partly because it was one of the only descriptions that included a maximum load, which at 200KG is more than twice my weight. Delivery was prompt and I had already seen many YouTube videos for a range of techniques for separating the parts to replace the gas lift. With my particular chair the feet/wheels came away from the base of the gas lift with about 5 firm strikes with a large rubber mallet. I also removed the screws holding the plate on the underside of the seat, but discovered that I could not access the top of the gas lift to knock it out. There is no easy way to disassemble the parts without potentially wrecking them, so I had to make do with holding the old gas lift and striking down repeatedly on the edges of the plate, turning it constantly for even movement. It was a slow process but over about 5-6 minutes the plate eventually came away. Because I was using a rubber mallet, only the mallet suffered any damage and that was only slight.Reassembly was much easier, just reattach the plate to the base of the chair and push the new gas lift into the centre of the feet/wheels and slot the chair back on top. A quick shake to make sure everything is in place and test the chair. It was a great success, with a good 7-8cm height gain. The new maximum height is 60cm from the ground, which is slightly more than is comfortable for me, but I can now just drop it down to around 56cm, which is perfect. The chair that wasn't comfortable is now actually better than when new, and the gas lift could loose 4cm of height with age and still be good. As a bonus, removing and refitting the underside plate has also cured a creaking sound that had become annoying recently.I highly recommend this product, so long as you can handle a little DIY and are able to adapt your technique if your chair is a bit different to others seen in the videos. It is a great way to revitalise or otherwise improve a chair that is otherwise perfectly usable, but needs a height correction or a new gas lift of the same height.

Good value chair repair
These are great, I was going to buy a new office chair when the gas lift that came with the chair gave up the ghost and it was when I was looking for them that the ad for gas lifts caught my eye. It cost £7 to repair the chair and I was able to buy a longer one to lift the chair to a better hight than it ever had been before. Now I have improved another chair that had always been to low before. Quite a simple job fixing them too, all you need is a hammer!
