It makes fine particles clump together making them easier to be filtered out hence clearing the water. Wood tannins is a colouration so will have to be gradually reduced with water changes. I set up a new tank with plant substrate, sand and gravel and as a result, the water was extremely murky and cloudy with sediment. I used filter floss and Accu-clear ad within 3 hours my tank water was crystal clear.
