If i bought 2 would i be able to connect them?

Yes, but the top part of the frame wouldn’t work and therefore you wouldn’t be able to use all the canopy on the top as shelter.

Could this be used inside?

Yes,it can,but anchoring will be a problem,you can put a base on it with mdf board,and drill holes for legs and additional put brackets over the bottom of the square bars

How big are the gaps underneath and around the doors?How big is the mesh on this? Is it suitable for a small puppy?

there are no gaps big enough for anything to escape;It has solid bars and wire. The holes are about 3 to 4 inches. So would be suitable for most dogs.

does it have to be built in a square or can it be used with say a two sided wall?

The panels can be put together in any order or shape - they are joined by metal clamps so can be joined in any pattern providing the panels are either straight or at right angles. The roof supports however will only fit if they are a rectangle
