brilliant and cheap
Worked on 3 out of 4 drives - the 4th was doa and not getting power so the connector cannot be blamed. Had old power connectors on a cable so did not test the sata power to 4 pin adapter. Takes a while, especially with really old 30gb drives, but no problems at all. This is definitely the device to buy instead of the more expensive options. Real bargain.

I am quite satisfied with the DIGIFLEX SATA/IDE to USB adapter
I have used this type of adapter before and this DIGIFLEX version worked equaly as good. I have used this one on both SATA and IDE hard drives and a SATA read/write CD/DVD drive without any problems. My problem with VFM is that I had to buy a 240v to 12v/5v power supply, the unit itself would have justified a full five stars other than that. It was sergested that I use a 12v/5v power lead from my computer but I didn't relish the idea of poking holes in the computer casing. Technical support from DIGIFLEX® was not needed. The writen instructions are a little jibberish but the unit was easy enough to set up any way. All in all I am quite satisfied with my purchase.

Useful, but with limitation: best suited to the more technical user
A useful device for connecting drives through a USB port for things like erasing disks or copy information from drives in a broken device. It is reasonable value for the price. It is really only for the more technical user. The instruction leaflet is very poor. The item on offer has no power supply, although the instructions make reference to one. Some form of external power will needed for most devices; so you need to understand what you are doing and how to safely connect devices.

Poor Instructions
I finally got this to work with the old hard drive in my PC. The diagram or "How it works" is incorrect as it shows an external power supply but there is nowhere to actually plug in an external power supply. I got this to work by removing the side panel from my PC, I left the connector attached to the hard drive that supplies the power to the hard drive (Yellow, Black. Red, Black & Orange cables). I did remove the flat cable from the PC hard drive and plugged in the red flat cable to the PC hard drive. and the end in to the Digiflex adaptor and then the USB in to my laptop.. Once i had powered on my old PC I could see and access the hard drive on my PC via the laptop. This process may be helpful to someone and maybe DigiFlex can update their "How it Works" diagram to remove the power supply and also add in the process I used.Ensure power is disconnected from the PC before opening and removing / connecting cables within the PC

Works perfectly
Had major issues with one of seller to begin with. Amazon took prompt action and resolved the issue. Was really impressed. Now come to the item itself. I have converted my sky hd's hard drive into a usb external hard drive for my TV with help of this setup. Due to bad review to some of the power adapters available on the marked i decided to use the power supply from the sky box (hard drive is sitting in the box)and the usb cable goes to the tv. I have also used it with 2.5" laptop hard drive and worked fine with out the need for any external power supply as usb cable will power it. On some occasions it did not recognize the hard drive but over-all its good.

Doesn't work.
Maybe i made a basic mistake. I thought that this was supposed to pretty much convert your old hard drives into external hard drives. But so far have tried this on Windows 7, Windows 10, Catalina, High Sierra, and Ubuntu 20.04 and not once has anything happened at all. No powering up sounds, no sense of motion, nothing. My natural 1st thought was that i must be doing something wrong. But there is so little to this that there is virtualy nothing to be getting wrong! There is only one thing left that i can think to do and i havn't tried yet. But that involves both opening the computers up AND still buying yet another small SATA style wire/connection. Which must be defeting the point of buying this then, isn't it? I still think and feel like it's me that is somehow at fault here. But if there was even a chance of salvaging old drives and vastly expanding my storage capacity for just the £6 that this cost, then i had to chance it really. . UPDATE: On seeing this negative review, the people behind this product got in touch with me and were very apologetic. They asked if i would like a refund or a replacement. I said that if they sent me a working version then i would happily retract this negative review AND apologize for my attitude. They then went and just issued a refund. Make of that what you will.

SATA IDE to USB adapter
This is an excellent product and has worked perfectly for me. I have read the negative reviews for the adapter and I am somewhat confused by comments about transformers and the like. This adapter, from Amazon does not come with a transformer! I just plugged in the adapter to my IDE Hdd, connected a Molex connector from the PSU and plugged in the USB connector. Absolutely no problems and I am impressed with the data transfer rate which is by no means slow! I highly recommend this adapter.

Extremely Good Value For The Money
While the instructions leave a lot to be desired, using this product is not rocket science. I had 20 hard drives, IDE & SATA, different makes and sizes up to 2 Tb to check if data required to be transferred before re-formatting. Only 3 failed to be recognized by my Windows 7 system via this device and that was NOT due to this product, but an inherent problem in windows 7 sometimes having problems recognizing it's own previous non NTFS formats. The supply of power to the product may mean you have to open one side of the computer or use a spare computer power supply buy hey, how much do you want for the money? In my opinion an excellent 'tool' to have available, easy to use and extremely good value for money.
