At 2 hours, the device will automatically shut down (but the light will remain on). if you want to use it again for another 2 hours you only need to switch the knob off and then back on again and it will start to diffuse for another 2 hours. we only caution you against over-exposure to essential oils. since our nebulizing diffuser is emitting only pure essential oil it is very potent and strong. you can experiment with it first and find a system that fits you, but generally speaking, you do not need diffuse for hours and hours on end because the scent is just very strong. this is unlike a plastic water diffuser and should not be compared to those. you will have a different experience with this unit.let me know if you have any questions we are happy to respond. thanks and sincerely,ChadOrganic Aromas **Q: Is it cordless?** A: Hi Nathgf, good question! While it might appear like that in some of the product photos if you study our site or videos you can see that this nebulizing diffuser unit is indeed plugged in with a cord to a normal wall plug. The machine can operate on both 110 or 220 volt systems without a problem and the cord is approximately 1.5 meters long.
