Potentially a very dangerous product
I purchased this as I was feeling lazy and couldn't be bothered to make my own capacitor discharge circuit. What a mistake. The instructions/description are unclear and in broken english, but the leaflet states insulated aluminium. On inspecting it, it felt like plain painted/coated aluminium. As the device claims it is safe for up to 1000V DC capacitors, I was a little concerned (as capacitors can give a kick) and decided to check this out before using it.As you can see from the two pictures above is that this device is nothing more than a couple of LED above ceramic resistor and directly soldered to the two probes. The basic design isn't a surprise, but the fact that there are metal parts of the circuit that can quite easily make contact with the aluminium case is worrying. The really worrying part is that the insulation appears to be a bit of black rubber pipe that has been glued in place after the LED have been pushed through the hole and that the bare wires and solder joints are exposed inside the metal case.Should the pipe inserstion have been done incorrectly or the glue fail at some point, say due to age; then there is a reasonable chance that the exposed wire/solder joints will be able to contact the aluminium chassis. If this was to happen with any of the parts directly in contact with the discharging capacitor, then there is potential for a dangerous electrical shock.Frankly this item should be removed from sale, as somebody trying to do the right thing, could get very hurt.

Essential for high voltage orojects
Audible tone when caps are charged. I used it to discharge high capacitance smoothing capacitors in a tube preamp project. Works well and the tone cuts off when caps are discharged. Good value

Handy device
This came in handy for discharging some high voltage capacitors in an amplifier I was working on. Simply double check with a meter afterwards for piece of mind of a full discharge.

Useful tool to discharge capacitors.
Shocked myself a few times with charged capacitors. Worked perfectly to discharge them before working on the pcb's.
