Not Bad!
Purchased this pen more or less on a whim, after having it highly recommended by a friend for a general-purpose pocket pen. This is my second space pen, the first was a "bullet" type that I had while I was at the university. It ended up disappearing during a lab and I never had a chance to replace it locally, so I just didn't bother. Always did miss that one, so when my friend refreshed my memory, it didn't take much convincing! First reaction when it showed up was "Wow, that's a COOL box!" This particular pen comes in a plastic clamshell box, with an outer space-shuttle-printed slip sleeve. Not particularly important to the pen, obviously, but is definitely good enough to make a cool first impression if you wanted to present it to someone. The pen itself is of very good construction, feels extremely solid in your hand, and extends and retracts with a VERY positive feel, especially retraction. Hitting the retract button results in a very satisfying "thunk" as the point snaps back in, and the extension is very smooth and effortless. That, ironically, is about my only gripe with the pen. I tend to carry my pens in my right-front jeans pocket (I'm a lefty), and the extension and lock on this pen is so smooth that I've already found it extended and locked open in my pocket twice in the first day and a half. Switched it to my shirt pocket and the problem went away easily enough. Writing, obviously, is a ball-point feel, but a very reliable one. Space pens are known for absolute reliability (after all, isn't that what I just paid another $19 over a cheap Bic to gain?) and from the first go, writing has been smooth and perfect-starting. No scribbling around to get 'er rolling for this pen, just like my old Bullet. Size wise, oddly enough for as tough as it is, it's not very large! About the same outside dimensions as your common Bic throw-away, so no trouble fitting it into pen holder loops and things like that. Bit heavier, though, as befits it's all-steel-and-brass construction. Overall I am quite pleased, I would definitely buy this one again. I think I'll be picking up a couple more as gifts for friends.

My favorite pen
The feeling of the pen in your hands (I am referring to the Black Matte, which has a satin feel to it) is excellent, and not at thick as some of the other Fisher Pens. It is a thinner stylus in terms of diameter. Additionally, while not quite as smooth a a G2 Gel pen, the particular substance (I've heard it is almost a paste) is almost just as good, and I never have to worry about it drying out or not working when writing on a vertical surface like a clipboard on a wall. It is also a nice conversation piece if you know the history of it's creation. The Russkis won the "pen race" in that they simply used lead/graphite pencils in zero gravity instead of pumping millions of dollars into the develop this technology, the space pen. Again, history., and it is a great pen. Only downside is I think it is a bit overpriced. Other than that, recommended. (But go with the Black Matte with the Gold Highlights!)

Fantastic pen!
I love pens, and have a nice collection ranging from Montblanc rollerballs from 80s West Germany to Japanese Sailor 1911 fountain pens. I have to say, this Space Pen is the best bang for my buck I've ever gotten when it comes to writing utensils. It has a great click, feels solid while being slim enough to carry in a front pocket, looks like it cost 10x more, and of course it writes just like you'd expect it too. I may never write with it upside down, underwater, or on top of grease, and I'll never use it in space. Still, just knowing that given the opportunity I could is pretty cool, and it makes for good office conversation every time I pull it out in meetings and get the inevitable "Wow, what kind of pen is that?".

Very Nice - Quality Pen
This is a high quality writing instrument. Metal body with a black finish. The actual writing part is the Fisher refill, which is a Fisher Space Pen standard, i.e., well done but available in a variety of configurations. The pen is a slim body design, but it's not slick in-hand. It writes well. The clicker part of this pen is unique to a small group of similar Fisher space pen models. The back-end clicker pushes the pen-point forward, while the button on the side near the back end releases the pen tip, i.e., it's not a rear-end-click to disengage the pen tip. That's an unusual feature, but it becomes second nature if you use it more than a couple of times.

Great pen, just a couple personalisations
Bought this pen because I do A LOT of writing all-day long in all kinds of weather. It came with the medium insert which I changed out for the fine insert. I used to use gel ink pens, and was more comfortable with the fine tip. I found that the medium ink was a bit thick and the ball wasn't 'gliding'. The fine tip I have now is much more responsive/nimble. I put a rubber grip at the end, again because I was used to a gel ink pen that had a rubber grip (actually, I pulled the grip off the gel pen and slapped it on the Fisher). Great pen all around. Solid clicking action.

Clip broke off after about a year
Bought this in 2018. Clipped it to my shirt pocket to use when marking work and never even dropped it or let anybody use it or abuse it. This morning the clip just broke off. I am flabbergasted. I used to have such a high regard for Fisher Space Pens to the point that have a few stashed here and there.

but they do work quite good, and once you get the hang of clicking ...
These mechanisms have juuust a bit of slop to to them, but they do work quite good, and once you get the hang of clicking the ball with your thumb to release; I actually like it better than extend/release both on the top. The pen is solid brass, and the clip is indeed a nice, light brass color - it was difficult to tell from the photo whether it is brass or chrome. Big fan of Fisher pens, and they make great gifts. I do think they can move up in the quality area; they still have that mass-produced quality that you can feel, though they are probably on the higher end of that scale.

I'm a pen lover and this pen is awesome. I love it
I'm a pen lover and this pen is awesome. I love it. I love the history of it, the feel of it, the looks of it. It writes beautifully and the best part is that it's made in the U.S.A.. The US can still create and make durable products that will last for generations as I suspect this pen will. It will be an heirloom.
