Death on the Night Train: a 1930s 'Reverend Shaw' Golden Age style murder mystery thriller (The Reverend Shaw Mysteries)

A Classic Crime Novel.
I think these Reverend Shaw mysteries get better and better. Death On The Night Train is a classic crime novel in the best of British traditions with plenty of twists and turns to keep you gripped to the last page. The perceptive characterisation brings the intricate game of cat and mouse alive and adds to the wonderful period atmosphere. The descriptions of pre-war town and country settings, from Suffolk to London to wild and woolly Scotland also adds greatly to the ambience. Highly recommended!

Obvious but still quite good
A good if rather obvious story. Obvious on all points actually, the plot, the perpetrators and therefore the ending! Still it passed a rather damp afternoon.

Good Read
Reverend Shaw is again dumped into a murder mystery, this time his life is put in danger, as an unscrupulous gang wants him out of action.Whilst this is really a rather over-the-top story it is nevertheless a page-turning read from the Golden Age.

Good story telling
Love these Reverend Shaw books. Good yarns in the great golden age style but without too many of the outdated views which can often blight the story telling.Echoes of ‘The Forty Nine Steps’ in this particular tale which has the sleuthing vicar travelling to the Highlands and racing across the moors pursued by evil villains. Loved it.

Brilliant.
A Brilliant story, fast paced and and trims in it too. I was glad it portrayed good triumphant over evil and greed. I will be looking out for another book the same author.

Death on the Night Train
Intelligent without being ponderous and great action with the puzzle, this was a terrific story. The style is somewhere between Father Brown and Richard Hannay. Recommended.

The Return of Reverend Shaw
My goodness, this was an action-packed adventure for Rev. Shaw! He had to confront family tragedy, found himself in a right pickle and witnessed some crazy high drama. An enjoyable and entertaining read.
