This book brought a big smile to my daughter's face, and although as a starter she dived into it with great gusto, and a lot of questions. The general layout of this book is excellent, and the use of graphics, fonts, and colors make learning fun and easy to follow. Including a CD is the intelligent touch, because there are songs that children do not know, and yes they could go to YouTube, but it’s not as personalized as having your CD. I would recommend this book for any beginner, as it’s designed to get your child up and running in a very short time while having fun learning music.

My daughter has just started recorder practise at school and this book was recommended as a 'must' from her music teacher. Firstly I would say that this is a very reasonable price, compared to the additional £3 they were charging in the local music shop.I like that the songs actually has words also, so she is able to get used to the tempo as well as learning the notes. Some of the children have older versions of this books and they are not in colour. This is bright and cheerful, with colours throughout, and from the noise coming from her bedroom in the evenings, I would say that it is very easy to follow.Recommended.

My granddaughter has started to learn the clarinet and to encourage her I decided to go back to playing the recorder after a fifty year break! I was also inspired to start again by watching a performance by the English Baroque Soloists of the Bach Easter Oratorio at the BBC proms last year (2013) where there is a beautiful part for two recorders) I have all three of the "Recorder from the Beginning" books for descant recorder. They were written for children which is great because when it comes to music I'm a 65 year old child.Make sure you get the versions with the cd. The cd is most helpful especially if like me you have trouble figuring out the rhythm and beat. On the cd each tune is played first by a solo recorder and then twice with a backing track - really instructive, entertaining and encouraging. And now I can read a bit of music, which is very satisfying. I highly recommend these books.After a couple of months of regular practice I've improved from gruesome to awful, but that is not the fault of these excellent books. At least the dog has stopped howling so I must be doing something right.

Bought this for my son who has started recorder lessons with his whole class at school (year 3). This was the required book. He worked through it in advance and very quickly mastered the first few notes, but it is written so that even with just one note there is a 'tune' to clap out, sing the words to, and play. It therefore gives a great sense of achievement from the first page.It also teaches a child the basics of reading music, gradually introducing new symbols etc, and by the end of the book they have managed to play tunes in groups, as rounds, and solo.Most children will progress very quickly; after 3 weeks I'm now buying the second book.

The instructions are clear and help teach the beginner notes. The issue are the songs, we didn’t know any of them.

I bought this to go with my daughters first recorder. Whilst I regret buying the recorder, this book is brilliant, she's made really good use of it, despite my best attempts at hiding it, to save my poor ears. I am certain when she can play properly, the noise will be far more pleasing on the ear. As I can play, I thoroughly enjoyed having a sneaky go myself, and I was very impressed with the simple instructions, and how easy it is for a child to follow alone, definitely a must if you're just beginning.

As expected. Good price. Delivered quickly

This is a very basic book for learners with instructions that are easy to understand. There are some fun tunes that I enjoy practicing regularly as there is quite a bit of variety included after every new note taught.This book in conjunction with the more detailed 'First Book of the Recorder' by Philip Hawthorne makes my practice sessions far more interesting and fun. Definitely recommend using additional beginner books along with this one.The cover page arrived with a split corner so this is probably not a brand new book. Fixable with a little glue. Other than that, it's still a good book to have on hand and am quite glad I got it.

In questo libro ho trovato diversi materiale da poter usare (scuola primaria 8-9-10 anni). Inizia con le note si-la-sol, introduce fin da subito le crome, poi passa subito all'uso della mano destra. É un metodo di lavoro impostato diversamente rispetto a quelli che uso, ma non é affatto male, inoltre ha delle canzoni diverse dal solito e con delle belle basi

The media could not be loaded. Not impressed with the songs, they're pretty silly. Using this book with a YouTube follow along. So far my daughter is enjoying it. Really good for a beginner, detailed instructions
