Slow, low, and delicious
It is a shame to admit that, as an English major, this is my first time to really read Mr. Faulkner. And in short, I was for the most part delighted in the reading and dismayed that my teachers and professors didn't have us read this. Alas, such is Midwestern education I suppose. Faulkner's short stories are intricate - worth reading slowly with a glass of bourbon or sweet tea on the table, perhaps even rereading. I was expecting much more of "the South" in the tales, but what I found was that Faulkner (at least in these short stories) was much more interested in delving the depths of the human spirit and what makes us tick across the globe than his own native Mississippi. The only frustration I encountered came when I tried to read too quickly, Mister Faulkner's text is not meant for speed, but for consideration.

AN INTRODUCTION TO FAULKNER'S GENIUS
A great introduction to Faulkner’s genius. He deserves his reputation. It is sad that recognition came to him so late after working so long on many books, poems and screenplays. One has to admire his persistence, but then perhaps writing for its own sake must have been all that mattered, or nearly all. Faulkner’s short stories are powerful, raising the senses. Original in style and prose. Wonderfully descriptive of varied people, situations and places. He puts us in the mind of a boy effortlessly in two stories and gives us the unmistakable flavor of southern culture in times gone by. Like Joyce’s Dubliners, I’ll be reading these short stories again. They are instructive.

Surprisingly alluring
I have no romantic attachment to the antebellum South or the reconstruction South or the Jim Crow South. I got to spend some time in the South as a child in the 50's. But the Faulkner was a bargain, and he's famous, so I started reading. I got drawn in by the characters, fascinated by the situations in which they found themselves, pushed along by the week paced action. Well written!

New to Faulkner, what a great find!
This was my first reading of Faulkner, a little late but it persuaded me to try his novels. Of course he won the Nobel prize through perseverance. These short stories are a good variety selection and introduce vignettes of his recurring characters. To a reader like me it was a delight to hear about the deep South of the early/mid 20th century. The prize invited a comparison to Steinbeck, who wrote later than Faulkner but shared some of his themes from a west coast standpoint. I decided that Steinbeck borrowed considerably from Faulkner but using more cumbersome and pretentious prose. I prefer the original.

I am satisfied with your service
I liked the book, as I am a fan of William Faulkner and have many of his books. Some of his work is difficult to read, but once one understands him, it is good reading. His understanding of poverty and his obvious distain for the negro race come to the fore very often, but in a way that does not seem repulsive. I think that you should offer more books of this type of writing.

Yes.
Fantastic collection of Faulkner short stories! Anyone who hasn't read much of Faulkner will get a great introduction to his writing style and thematics; anyone who has read (and loved him) Faulkner will be captivated as always. He isn't know (obviously) for his short stories, but this collection will show anyone why he ought to be. It's definitely more digestible than his longer works, which most people either don't have the patience for or are intimated by.I recommend this book for those who have never read Faulkner and those who love his work. For those that abhor his work, give his short stories a chance! They're similar but not the same!

William Faulkner is great in any format...
These read more like story ideas than full-blown stories(something you jot down so that you can come back later and develop further), but let's face it, anything from Faulkner is worth reading. If you're a true reading nut, like I am, the way he structures sentences is a joy to behold.
