My teenage son uses it all the time for grilling burgers and for making melted cheese creations to his own recipes. I find it very quick and easy to use, its a handy gadget for all sorts of kitchen shortcuts. Would recommend it. Plates don't come off to clean but they do wipe clean easily, often just needing a quick run over with a paper towel and now and then a more thorough hot water and dish soap wipe down.
