Absolutely Brilliant!
I own a couple of FE lenses for my Sony A7M2, all of which are fantastic in their own right, however this one has now taken the #1 favourite spot of them all, it's just a very pleasant lens to use and the quality of imagery you can get from this is phenomenal. Inside the box you also get a carry pouch, a plastic conical lens hood and the normal bits of paper work. The whole lens body has a robust and top quality feel, making you feel like you paid for a product that means business. There are a couple of switches and features located on the exterior, which are: ∙ Auto Focus Range Switch: Full Range | Infinity - 0.5m | 0.5m - 0.28m. When you get used to knowing your distance, using this switch to specifically tell the camera will speed up the auto focus greatly as it can concentrate on one area. ∙ Optical Steady Shot Switch: On | Off. For when used handheld, will help reduce shake on photos. ∙ Hold Focus Button: When held in AF mode, it will cancel the auto-focus and lock it into its current focus range. ∙ Focus Ring: The focus ring can be changed from AF to MF by sliding it towards you and back to AF by sliding it away; this makes it useful when you want to quickly change between the two. The manual focus distance is also marked on the lens, so when switching back to MF, it will remember which distance to focus in on (unless you somehow accidentally moved it). I personally found the focus ring to have decent grip. The great thing about having a 90mm macro lens is that it allows you to get closer to your subject without being so close to it. I also own the normal 30mm macro lens which was designed around Sony's APS-C sensor camera range, however to get really close shots will require you to get very close, sometimes resulting in having the lens shadow on your subject; using this lens will prevent it happening as often. Macro photography certainly isn't easy, so if you're just getting into it, do have patience. The slight movement will make your subject out of focus as the depth of focus is so shallow, especially at its widest F/2.8 aperture, so I'd recommend going between F/8 - F/16. The detail you can get in macro shots when focused properly is simply superb. Macro photography isn't where it stops with this lens; portrait and candid shots are also its strong areas. Whilst I do prefer Sony's 55mm F/1.8 lens for portraits, I can never get decent candid shots with it as I need to be much closer; so now having that ability has pleased me greatly. You can still get a decent shallow depth of field with the F/2.8 aperture and this lens can deliver decent bokeh too. As for sharpness, if you get the focus right, it's very good. I highly recommend this lens, top stars from me!

A beast portrait and Macro lens on my Sony A7iii
I'm a professional portrait photographer. My main focus is to get the best sharpness photo and natural skin tone. I had some great portrait lenses from sony like the 35mm 1.8 and the 85mm 1.8 and I wasn't sure if this lens will be any difference or will add any value to my photography! But from the amount of good reviews about this lens I decided to buy it and see if will add any value into my output and YES this lens is Amazing sharp and I love the skin details coming out of it. Also it takes me to a different wounderful world of Macro photography its my new hobby now that I have just started! Regarding the build quality and features on this lens absolutely fantastic and I don't need to go in details because these all mentioned by everyone has this lens. If you want to see some of my portrait photoshoot with this lens you can find me on Instagram @faceandlens

Fantastic Image Quality
After using this lens for a few months, I feel I can write an informed review for this lens. It's quite large (though, not the largest lens) but you can walk around with it attached. The top of the lens has a the focusing ring, which is easy to use. You can pull this down slightly to switch into manual focus and push it back up to return to camera controlled focus really quickly. Whilst a nice feature, it is relatively easy to unintentionally shift the ring into manual focus. Causing the camera to be in manual focus mode, which prevents auto focus from working (obviously) it can be quite confusing sometimes until you realise why your camera is not working. This is more user error than a fault of the lens, but worth keeping in mind during use. In terms of auto-focus, I find the lens hunts around far more than my other lenses. It auto-focuses fine but is no-where near as snappy as my other lenses. I would say auto-focus is disappointing (to me) but that isn't really the reason you buy this lens. Switching between auto-focus and manual focus is super quick and simple however using the focus ring. Image quality is stunningly sharp however, I have attached some photo's I have taken with this lens. Indeed the first picture I tested it with contained far more detail than I was used to seeing. It also works fantastically for macro, the almost medium telephoto length and the ability to get close give great scaling of the subject, coupled with the lens sharpness and the ability to easily switch into manual focus make macro work easy to work with. Overall, the only fault I have with this lens is the sluggish auto-focus and (through my own fault) sometimes unknowingly switching to manual focus. As I use it more often, the manual focus switch becomes less of an issue as it becomes the first thing I check when the camera start behaving strangely. But you cannot fault the image quality at all.

Crystal clear pictures
Worth the price, the lens is wonderful in almost every aspect. Autofocus is slightly slower than other lenses I have, but it is still one of the funnier lenses to play with. And the manual focus is just perfect and precise. I leave some of the pictures that I've been able to take, with 0 previous experience in macro photography.

One epic lens and one of the best that Sony makes. BUT
This is an epic lens, the sharpest lens out there. But it as a big problem, you would expect superior build quality at this price rand but this lens needs some redesign. The problem with this lens is style over function, the focusing ring is very brittle and only lasts an average of 18 month to 2 years and will need to be sent back for repairs. There is 2 plates in side that are glued together and can cum loos damaging the lens causing it to not be recognized by the camera. No AF / MF no power to any of the switches on the side and the lens aperture blades will ratel and make a bad nose when you switch on the camera. Fixing costs up £300 £500 Please buy the extended warranty. Still 100% recommend this lens. but be be careful.

The clarity is of the highest level. It might take 1 or 2 days to get used to it but once you get comfortable, there is no stopping you from taking amazing pictures
