Got To Love Makita Tools!
I spent weeks reviewing different sanders before purchasing this one, and got to say, its brilliant. This one is the base version, but using the Makita battery with it, gave a good amount of use and battery life. I have a number of Makita tools and not only are they great products, but always feel like really good value for money. It comes with a small dust bag, so happily collects the dust, however I would recommend getting the hoover connection kit if doing a lot of sanding. There are 3 speed levels, but I only really used 2 out of the 3 and although I saw a number of comments about it stopping when using, I can only assume these were people pushing down to hard on the sander and forcing it to stop. As for the noise level, I think this is about standard for these devices and would happily recommend it to anyone.

Makita, that's all you need to know!
Trusted Makita quality, my first go-to for power tools Lasts a surprisingly good amount of time with my old 4Ah and 5Ah batteries however, I've not timed them, far too busy! The dust collection bag is tiny but serves a purpose to an extent. I've not tried to attach a vac as the connection is tiny and possibly wouldn't draw enough air to keep the vac cool It will endure some years of use & most of my corded sanders are now collecting the dust not creating it

Wish I bought one earlier
Put off buying this for sometime as I felt it was abit of a luxury tool. I had a corded Black and Decker detail/orbital sander (BnD) that was on longterm loan from a friend, which kind off worked and there's nothing wrong with abit of handsanding. Anyway, I eventually cracked and bought this as a birthday present to myself and from first use wished I had cracked earlier. Firstly no more wires, an obvious thing but what a difference! Also the vibration and noise are so much less compared to the BnD. You could use it without ear protection for a short period (not that I'd recommend doing this), where as after a few seconds with the BnD your ears would start to bleed. The passive dust collection is also pretty good, I did 3D print a vacuum hose adaptor for when sanding in the home or for sanding MDF/paints. The battery lasts on full power longer than it takes to charge a spare battery so constant sanding is possible with two batteries (mine are 3ah). It is worth noting this is for light-ish sanding as it hasn't got the power of a corded (though more than the BnD), if there's a lot of material to remove you'd do better with a belt sander and/or power planer. All and all it's a great bit of kit and if you've got a reasonable amount of sanding coming up it's definitely worth the money.

Great Sander but backing plate could be improved!
I'm a big fan of the LXT system and Makita tools in general and this is a brilliant tool and (as far as I know) is the only 'LXT' sander out there... I bought mine mainly for decorating and sanding filler although I've used it for woodwork too - works very well with the dustless Abranet discs, Mirka hose attached to a Henry vac - this gives a nearly dustless setup for very little cost. Another tip is using the smaller 1.5 / 2.0 Ah LXT batteries make this night and light for use at height etc. It obviously does go through the batteries though so I keep swapping and charging them. Only complaint I have is that the discs stopped sticking to the backing plate after a couple of years and started to fly off as soon as it was started (especially as it always starts at full speed!) - this may well have been to do with me using the Abranet discs as above but I was still disappointed it had not lasted longer and although this was well used, we are talking DIY use only and not daily! Makita replaced the plate FOC as it was still under warrranty which was good but the genuine part is nearly ยฃ20 if it needs doing again - I don't think the new one is any better than the original, it doesn't seem all that sticky compared to other sanders I've used but it's like new again at least! Overall, It's great for its size but I'm sure it can be improved and hopefully made more powerful. I think it was the first revision of the LXT sander so it will be interesting to see what they change if they do replace and bring out a newer improved model!

Nice small tool for small jobs
Maybe not the most powerful tool, but for little jobs it is perfectly fine. Even the speed is fine (someone was complaining about that).

excellent
used with the 3m discs and what a great combo! best results were just to guide the sander over the oak worktop with no extra downward pressure, superb fast results with no effort, couldn't be happier
