Lovely Creatures is the most comprehensive overview of the recorded work of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds to date. Spanning thirty years of music from their debut album From Her To Eternity through to Push The Sky Away their 15th studio album, the collection navigates one of the most exhilarating, idiosyncratic and inventive bodies of work created in contemporary music. Included are long-standing live favourites “Stagger Lee” and “The Mercy Seat”, their hit single from 1995 “Where The Wild Roses Grow” through to recent fan favourites “Jubilee Street” and “We No Who U R”. There are songs that newcomers may only know from their appearance on film and television soundtracks, notably “O Children” (Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Pt. I) and the ubiquitous “Red Right Hand”, most recently familiar to fans of the series Peaky Blinders. The album was compiled by Nick Cave and founding member Mick Harvey, with help from the current Bad Seeds. Band members past and present raided their personal archives to provide previously unseen photos and memorabilia which have been collected into a beautiful hardcover book, along with a series of original essays. The book is available as part of the limited edition ‘Super Deluxe’ album collection which also comes with a two hour DVD containing rare and unseen archive footage. Lovely Creatures is available in four formats, all featuring personal and rare photographs of the band: Standard CD, Triple LP, Deluxe 3CD with DVD and the Super Deluxe Limited Edition package. Review: Missed opportunity for completists, buy achingly lovely release... - The missed opportunity I feel is the non-inclusion of the music videos which are only available on the Best of DVD, which must now be at least 15 years old - a lot of videos have come and gone in that time. Having said that, the DVD is of great interest, but only to Bad Seed afficionados, which is why I always get back to the question of why release a best of package which includes rarities? I can hear the shouts of money-spinning, which is indeed valid, but given that the vast majority of people forking out for the deluxe edition will be Nick Cave fanatics, why would they want or need another copy of Deanna or Red Right Hand, etc. Why not put out a 3cd set of rarities? Why? Coz it's already out there for a ridiculously cheap price of £10, namely "B-Sides & Rarities". This set should maybe have included rare video, not this so-called "Best of", This deluxe set omits easily a dozen songs that should always appear on a Bad Seeds compilation, including The Moon Is In the Gutter, The Train Song, John Finn's Wife, Jack the Ripper, (the title track) Lovely Creature, Time Jesum Transeuntium Et Non Riverentum and (also unbelievably omitted) Cave's duet with Polly Harvey, Henry Lee and its accompanying The Curse of Millhaven. Gripes aside this set is an absolute joy to own. I haven't properly scanned the lavish hardcover book, but I'm sure it's great, but again I fear will duplicate old coffee-table edition photos such as the long out of print "Fish in a Barrel". I hope there will be a comprehensive release of Bad Seeds music videos, in the stylish form of the recently released DVD of Video Singles by label-mates Depeche Mode. Review: nick cave and the bad seeds - great cd... best of... some superb songs. good prce

Good selection.
If you need to catch up on Nick Cave this is a good introduction although a knowledgeable friend tells me its a bit weighted to some of the more 'easy listening' output!! As ever it's annoying you can no longer purchase media lije thus from amazon through the phone app.

Buy It!
I had never heard any of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds until a few weeks ago when they played a track on radio one. I loved the music so much I decided to buy a cd. As this one had a selection of his best tracks I thought it would be a good buy and we are delighted with it. I will definitely be getting some more cd's as his music is great. he price was very good too.

I've enjoyed Cave for years but not bought his work. I decided to start here and what can I say ? Genius. I've a lot of catching up to do.

Super nice book with lots of inserts in it
I'm a huge fan of Nick Cave so I got all the album he did, the 3 cds were not the reason why I bought it. Super nice book with lots of inserts in it. DVD is disapointed. First of all a lots of video are from You tube so image quality is good to very bad. just the dvd is kind of tricky, my copy frozed from time to time, I tried it twice and seems that image stuck but not always at the same place so not sure if it's my dvd player or the dvd itself.

The music is great and covers pretty much everything up until, but not including, Skeleton Tree. I have pretty much most of Nick Cave's later CDs, not the older stuff so this is a good introduction to the early era. However, the jewel of this box set is the book. It's incredible with lots of great things to read and see, not to mention the little trinkets peppered throughout. Worth every penny.
